Q1: Tell us the story of the early days from when you decided to start your own firm to establishing the firm. What were the main steps you had to take?
It all began about nine years ago when I made the decision to start my own real estate media production company here in Los Angeles. After over a decade as a photographer, I felt a strong desire to chart my own path and create something that truly reflected my passion for visual storytelling in the real estate sector. The first step was building a solid business plan, outlining my goals, target market, and the services I wanted to offer.
Next came the crucial task of securing financing. This involved a mix of personal savings, loans, and even some investments from friends and family who believed in my vision. Once the financial aspect was in place, I focused on setting up the physical office space, investing in equipment, and establishing an online presence through a professional website and social media profiles.
Q2: What were some of the key challenges in setting up your own office/practice?
One of the most significant challenges was building a client base from scratch. In a competitive market like real estate media, gaining trust and credibility with potential clients was a slow and steady process. It took time to develop a strong portfolio and reputation, and I had to be patient during the initial stages when business was slow.
Another challenge was managing the administrative side of the business – from handling finances to juggling multiple projects and ensuring they ran smoothly. As a creative professional, I had to learn the ropes of entrepreneurship quickly.
Q3: Would you have done anything differently knowing what you know now?
Looking back, I believe that every challenge and setback was a valuable learning experience. However, if I could offer advice to my younger self, I would emphasize the importance of networking even more. Building relationships within the real estate industry and among fellow photographers and professionals can open up new opportunities and collaborations.
Additionally, I would stress the significance of continuous learning and staying updated with the latest technology and trends in photography and real estate marketing. This has been crucial in staying competitive and providing innovative services to clients.
