Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Akisha Lockhart. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Akisha thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s talk about innovation. What’s the most innovative thing you’ve done in your career?
I wasn’t the first to do it, but I started conducting interviews in my Jeep. As a small business owner, money is always a driving factor in every aspect of the company. I interview celebrities, influencers and tastemakers. I needed a space that would look & feel good. Something that was creative and that I could essentially run on my own. It worked and has became a hit around Chicago.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hosting and owning a talk show was a childhood dream of mine. I didn’t know when, where or how it would happen. With no knowledge of how to create a website and book celebrity guests, God planted the seed and gave the increase. I created my own internet talk show, “She’s Gotta Show.”
My guest list includes Common, Black Thought, Keke Palmer, LaRoyce Hawkins, Da Brat, Lil Rel, Q-Tip, Big Sean, and Marlon Wayans just to name a few. With no backing from a major network, I’ve been able to see my dream become a reality. Much later, photography and influencer marketing came into the picture.
Two added bonuses have been a major blessing. If you would have told my younger self one day I’d be a brand influencer for Nike Chicago, McDonald’s, Zenni, ORS Haircare, and Puma to name a few. I’d be speechless, just like I am now.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Word of mouth is one of the most powerful and cost efficient ways to build new clientele. It takes a village to have success and I have wonderful tribe behind my brand. They not only return, but bring a few other people with them. For that, I’m truly grateful!
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
My reputation has been built on a foundation of hard work. I come from a family of extremely hard working parents, so it’s in my blood. I put my feet in the other person’s shoes and ask myself this very simple question, “how would I want to be treated during this process?” I believe that has helped my brand’s reputation in a great way!
