Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Akil Mccoy. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Akil, thanks for joining us today. One of our favorite things to hear about is stories around the nicest thing someone has done for someone else – what’s the nicest thing someone has ever done for you?
When Megan Thee Stallion asked me to be her MUA. Without even touching her face. The first day I met her and she opened so many doors for me to continue to make money forever in the field I chose.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Well first , in a innovator, creator, ICON. I am form a small town in Alabama and pursued my career in beauty after I won 1st place at Bronner Brothers Makeup Competition winter 2015. Taht wasn’t the change in my life but it was a small milestone. Until I moved to Atlanta, Ga that summer of 2015 and my life changed for the better. Ofc there was hardships I faced but overall life changing. I am makeup artist and I provide creative services in all fields of beauty. What sets me apart if I’m always on my toes about doing something no one would think about. Presenting my art as a black excellence. Top Tier. One of a Kind. Unique. Life changing. Akilaface the brand is a Lifestyle. What im most proud of is my respect. Even when other put me down or count me out. I ALWAYS pop back up in a major way. Giving shock value to longevity in this business.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Yes of course. To make the impossible, possible. To have my art cover Vogue , Harpers Bazaar, W magazine, V Magazine, Essence etc. All publications in print. Movies , Tv shows, Major Fashion Shows in Milan, New York. To be recognized as a contributor to art, black culture, pop culture, beauty, fashion. All things things will align for me because they have show themselves to me time and time again. So it’s no way I can lose.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Social Media, dealing with commentators who impose on my life when they don’t understand the full story or really know the industry ties that come with dealing with major artist. Watching what I write and say.
