We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Akiko Coats. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Akiko below.
Akiko, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
I was born and grew up in Japan. My parents never told me what I should do. Instead they always encouraged me to pursue my passion whether it was a hobby, for school, or later on in my profession.
Now, I am a wife and mom of two daughters while pursuing my creative passion of floral design.
I am learning how to balance my life and job, but I am hoping to be a positive example to my daughters.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a home-based event florist as I believe in developing a personal relationship with each of my customers, so I can provide the highest-quality floral arrangements.
I work closely with very reliable wholesale flower shops which enables me to select and secure the perfect colors and types of fresh flowers based on the customers’ requests.
Here is one of my client’s review published on Zola this year that I wanted to share,
“”I had an incredible experience with Akiko. She was the epitome of professionalism and made the entire process a breeze. From the initial consultation to the final arrangements, she was attentive, responsive, and easy to work with. She listened carefully to our vision and preferences, offering valuable suggestions and creative ideas that elevated the overall design. The flowers they provided were absolutely stunning! Each arrangement was meticulously crafted, showcasing a perfect blend of colors, textures, and fragrances. The attention to detail was remarkable, and she ensured that every bouquet, centerpiece, and decorative element was flawless. The flowers truly brought the whole venue to life, creating a magical and romantic atmosphere that exceeded our expectations. I cannot recommend Akiko enough. Her talent, professionalism, and dedication to her craft is truly commendable. If you’re looking for a florist who will go above and beyond to make your wedding day beautiful and memorable, this is the one to choose.”

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of my job is getting positive feedback from my clients and knowing that I contributed to their very special day or event. My work of bouquets and flower arrangements will be in their lifetime photographs and videos that they cherish with their loved ones and family. That makes me feel honored to be a part of their special occasions.
I was awarded to be “Best of 2023 Zola”. The annual “Best of Zola” award is a mark of excellence earned by wedding professionals that have proven themselves as best-in-class across the couples’ planning experience, from inquiry to final send-off.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
There are always hardships and issues. Fresh flower resources are directly impacted by the climate changes or shortage of workforce. I always have to be flexible and come up with alternative options to make my client’s vision come true.
To be able to provide that kind of service, I am very fortunate to have wonderful relationships with my wholesalers who directly work with farms around the world.
