We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Akia Towler. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Akia below.
Akia , appreciate you joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Success as a beauty and lifestyle content creator is a blend of creativity, consistency, and being authentic. It’s about more than just following trends that you see & more about creating a personal brand that resonates with your supporters. Your unique voice and POV is what sets you apart in a world full of creators.
Success requires you to move at the beat of your own drum no matter what other people may perceive you as. Me personally, I am a chronic over thinker so I have to give myself grace and compassion. It’s easy to play the compare game & strive for perfection. However it’s important to remind myself that my worth isn’t determined by the amount of likes, comments, & followers.
Being sure to create a balance between being a creative and maintaining a healthy mental state. Success as an influencer/ content creator isn’t just about numbers. it’s about keeping a healthy & fulfilling life while doing what you love.

Akia , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
As a 30 year old mother of two, my journey to becoming a full time content creator is both exciting and challenging. Balancing motherhood with my passion for being a creator means my days are filled with multitasking. My kids are my biggest inspiration, and they fuel my drive to build something meaningful not just for myself, but for them as well. I have to be organized and set aside days where I plan my content for the upcoming week & days that I’m able to film and edit, some nights I stay up all night writing down ideas for YouTube videos and reels I’d like to create.
My content is beauty and lifestyle based so I do a lot of research to stay on top of cute style inspo and hair health tips for my supporters. I feel like my platform provides my viewers with the inspiration to love and embrace their natural hair and learn how to care for it, as well as provides positive inspiration for mental health.
My ability to continue being creative and focused on my end goal when days are hectic and filled with chaos is what I am most proud of. My supports are people who love to keep themselves looking and feeling beautiful and also have days where just showing up is good enough. My supporters come to my platform for a daily hit of inspiration to continue striving for their goals and never give up. My goal has always been to become an inspiration and not an influencer. I want to inspire women and men to go after what it is that they dream, we can all have the lives we imagine inside of our heads, we just have to do the work and keep the faith regardless of how life looks right now. One day it can look like everything you’ve always dreamed no matter how big and scary the goal is life is truly what we want it to be.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
A time that I had to be resilient in my career was when I got pregnant with my second child, the pregnancy was easy and I was able to continue business just as I had before. I completely underestimated the amount of work and help I would need once my daughter was born. Everything began to be very overwhelming and hard for me to juggle, so I had to take a step away from being a creative and focus on being a mother. Two years went pass and I watched my platform of supporters plummet. Once my ego took a hit of shame because I was on such a high from the growth of supporters I had and seeing it continuously going down I felt I could not recover from this. It took me about two years to show my face on my platform again and have the same thrill and love as I once did with growing and connecting with my audience. It took alot of positive self talk and inspirational videos to uplift myself and begin posting and engaging with my audience like I once did before. I had to adjust to the decrease in engagement I received until I finally got to a point of posting because it’s what I love to do and not posting and focusing on the numbers. Now here we are at the present day and I have been receiving PR, sponsorships and collaborations with brands I love. I believe everything happens for a reason and everyones journey to success looks very different, I am extremely grateful to be able to speak on some of my journey and hope that someone will hear it and be inspired to push through a tough time to continue to their goals as well.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The goal and mission for my creative journey as I’ve said before Is to inspire others to see a face similar to their own and know that believing in yourself is what has gotten me to where I am and will get me where I want to be. I hope that me showing up for myself and accomplishing the things that I have and will in the future will also inspire someone to go after the life they have always dreamed of living. The end goal for me personally is truly creating a life for my children that they can look at me and be extremely proud to say That’s my mother. I lived a life of struggle, but my parent’s did the best they could with the resources they had. To give me and my siblings the life we had & I’ll forever be grateful to them for that. It has molded me to be who I am and have the drive and determination to break a generational curse and make a change.
