Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Akanksha Yadav. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Akanksha , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I have always envisioned myself as a creative person and was always interested in creative work. I tried various places but was not getting any opportunity to pursue my creative dreams. So I thought of starting my own social media channel, and started creating content using just my smartphone.
Initially it was more of a Trial and Error, but over the period of time I started understanding how social media works, how to connect with the audience and provide value for them.
After I had my second child, I was going through postpartum depression, that time creating fun videos for social media helped me immensely. It not only gave me a creative outlet but also helped in improving my mental health. I suppose you could say that’s when the creator in me really came to play. I slowly started teaching myself various editing techniques to create more fun and interactive videos.
Social Media industry is a very dynamic industry, there are new changes introduced every other day, hence there is always something new to learn and explore. I got to where I am today by taking uncomfortable steps, trying to learn new editing style constantly, and lastly by learning to love myself, to be a better version of myself as compared to what I was yesterday.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am what they call nowadays a social media influencer. I am a one man (woman) army – I conceptualize, shoot, edit and post all my photos and videos by myself, all by using just my smartphone and my trusty tripod. My primary content involves styling videos, transitions, before and after videos as well as making instagram reels inspired by pop culture and trends. I am slowly transitioning to other social media channels as well. I have worked with many different fashion, health, beauty and lifestyle brands.
I believe what sets me apart is that I am a self taught artist. I am authentic and not scared to be myself. I am not scared to be vulnerable and I show the world that you don’t have to be perfect to pursue your dreams. Most important thing is to have confidence in who you are and try to achieve incremental gains everyday.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I think non creator, or anybody who is not creating content for social media, might not understand how much effort goes behind it. It might look like as basic as clicking and uploading on any social media. But that is far from the reality – to create a simple 7 sec video, it takes so much planning and research. It requires to come up with the concept, to shoot the video, to edit, to think of a relevant caption and a song. There is lot of effort behind the scene which goes unnoticed.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Having a full time job and 2 kids, carving out time for anything else is very difficult. But if we are really passionate about something we should try our best to work towards it. My overall goal is to inspire all women to feel comfortable about themselves, to do what they are passionate about while pursuing other life goals along the way and to live as the best possible version of themselves.
