We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Akaieshia Sanders a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Akaieshia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
I’ve always been interested in becoming a music artist since the young age of 5. Back then, all I could see was the glitz and glamour on TV, with no knowledge of how everything went behind the scenes. Throughout the years, I learned I possess many other talents besides singing. Although I was multi-talented, my love for singing never faded. By this time, I had already graduated high school and was heading into college, thinking it was my only way out. But eventually, I discovered that if you don’t love it, you won’t give 100%, which led me to drop out of college and into a situation where I began to question my purpose in life. Thinking back, I felt that’s where I should’ve started pursuing music since it was the only talent I never really utilized. Instead, I did other things that likely pushed me back further. Though everything happens for a reason, I could’ve made better choices with my time. Fortunately, in 2019, I finally decided to pursue a music career. Everything started easy and fun as I was solely focused on being the artist, and I quickly learned that it takes more than doing music videos and releasing music. Right now, I’m thankful I started when I did because, before this experience, I knew nothing about patience, business, and networking. I wouldn’t change anything about my experience because I truly feel that everything happened for a reason and in the way it was supposed to.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am a singer/songwriter and performing artist from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, who works daily to improve myself. My goal in music is to bring back life and love to music as it was in the late 90s and early 2000s. What sets me apart from others is my ability to provide high vibrations and great energy whenever I walk into a room. I’m most proud of my authenticity and eagerness to learn and grow as an individual. I’ve learned throughout my journey that when you stay true to yourself, everyone appreciates and respects you more, and it draws me closer to my supporters.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist and creative is that all the content is based solely on me. I am gaining fans and followers from around the world just by being me and expressing myself through music which is a coping mechanism for most people. Whenever someone feels good or bad and cannot fully express themselves, they turn to music, and I think that’s why we have so many music artists today.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
In the beginning, I built my audience on social media by consistently posting material related to music and my personality. Once COVID came into play, there was a significant change in how creatives had to showcase themselves; TikTok was becoming the #1 entertainment app, Instagram launched Reels, which greatly influenced my following. My advice to those starting a social media presence is to be creative, stay consistent, and have fun.
