We recently connected with A’Justice Ellison and have shared our conversation below.
Hi A’Justice, thanks for joining us today. Alright, so we’d love to hear about how you got your first client or customer. What’s the story?
I took a leap. I heard a lot of songs on the radio that turned out to be ads and I was intrigued. I reached out to a lawfirm on instagram and they replied with a direct email to their marketing team. They asked for an example of the type of work I do and I quickly replied back with a demo of a jingle that I’d created from scratch in my bedroom. When they said they wanted to go forward with me I was elated. Making music is something I enjoy in every aspect of life so this was the perfect lane for me. 4+ years later the rest is history and I still get excited when I turn the radio on and hear myself and my production at any given time.
A’Justice, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m an artist, producer and songwriter that blends my melodic voice and compelling lyrics to create a very original sound that is soulful and fresh!
You’ve probably turned on the radio and heard my very distinct voice and musical production on the 1-800-injured Bethune lawfirm ads.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Having a unique sound can sometimes attract a lot of “no’s” because it’s unknown. I had to unlearn different meaning a negative thing. Having a different voice texture is actually a good thing and learning that has been a pleasure.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Last year I had to have thyroid surgery. Being that my first surgery involved my throat area and I use my voice to make music , I was worried. After rest, recovery and lots of tea, I have my voice and I at times feel it’s better than ever. Soon after I joined forces with a band and we are working to create a new sound that I am very excited about.
