We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ajisafe Olumuyiwa R. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ajisafe below.
Hi Ajisafe , thanks for joining us today. Let’s jump into the story of starting your own firm – what should we know?
This question takes me back to my days back in higher institution, sat down one beautiful day asked myself what do I want ? in my country Nigeria, there are a lot of graduates, thousands of people graduate every year with no job. I was left with deciding what do I really want to do with my life. I made decisions I would own my own firm I would be a leader, I would create job opportunities for people.
As at the time I was studying Architecture I was a Musician I play multi instruments ( The Piano, The Bass Guitar and the Recorder). I love the bass more I was popularly know to be a bassist in school. I got my nick name from MBASS Cos of my enthusiasm for bass guitar.
2017 while schooling I already had my mindset fixed I saw myself as a leader I was totally unique in school yes I was different I branded myself I gave myself BASS ARCHITECT STUDIO anytime I do designs, assignments all my school works I put by brand name BASS ARCHITECT STUDIO there. The name came as a result of what I do ( I play the Bass, I am also going to be an Architect. also the studio was the combination of bass and Architecture of cos both needs a studio smiles) later I got to defined the studio when my photography career came up. which means I do/engage in 3 things professionally which are MUSIC, ARCHITECTURE AND PHOTOGRAPHY. I WAS TOP NOTCH IN ALL.
I had the mindset fixed already, I have something to offer to the society, I knew I was going to be different I knew I was meant to be a leader. that was how I started my own firm even right when I was still in school.
Today my firm is registered, sometimes it gets blurry, sometimes I get depressed how do I go about getting clients how do I survive, how do I feed. if I told you it was easy I lied.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am an Architect and also A Professional Photographer. Bass Architect Studio is a registered organization. our services includes :
Design & Build,
Building Consultancy,
Project management,
Visualization and also a Photographer.
Bass Architect Studio is a firm that is focused on providing cutting edge design with modern day trends in Technology and Innovative research in Construction Materials.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
There was a time in my life I struggled in life to feed, to cope with life there was a time after schooling I was so desperate to get a job, I changed environment I was not living with my parents any longer I needed to survive. I searched for jobs, applied to over 50 firms honestly it was a no. I was really so frustrated I saw a teaching option and I applied. My parent own a school so at my early age I was involved in teaching I knew what it takes to be teacher I had experience already from my parent school. so teaching was another part of me.
Also when I was doing my National youth service (N.Y.S.C) I also taught alongside, but this time I was taking schools music (a part time teacher) it was really fun for me and I had about 5 schools I was taking this was an additional money for me alongside my Nysc monthly payment.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
i had to learn getting clients through social media, social media helped me a lot most especially Instagram. there is someone somewhere who needs your services who doesn’t even know how to get one, or needs a trusted person to handle a job/project etc. There comes social media. a lot of people have gotten lot of clients via social media. I am also one of them.
I have also helped people/taught them how to get clients via social media. I have written a book on how to get client on Instagram titled INSTGRAM BREAKTHROUGH. You can request to get a soft copy on WhatsApp +2348166998711 or send me an email via [email protected]
