We were lucky to catch up with Ajia Munns recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Ajia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the story behind how you got your first job in field that you currently practice in.
My first job in the wellness field was given to me in partnership with my dear friend Elizabeth Boston. I didn’t even have to interview. (smile) She was putting a group of three women together to be of service to women who looked like us. She’s someone who doesn’t just complain about a problem she makes a solution. So she asked our friend Dominique, and myself to be a part of an organization that would provide a collective meditation practice for black/indigenous women with an extension to all. I remember every moment of our growth, from a living room conversation to media/press covering our events. Elizabeth is “mind” because BW Meditate is her brainchild, I am “Spirit” because of my natural nurturing and spiritual essence, and Dom is “Body” She is the best yoga instructor I’ve seen, we are Mind Body, and spirit of BW Meditate.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I have been in the mindfulness space for over 9 years. I use my practice to uplift and connect with others. I believe merging arts and mental wellness is the key to the betterment of our communities. With that said I lead mindfulness sessions to promote a healthy mind. My company is Mindfulness with Ajia. Mindfulness techniques can be practiced by anyone and the benefits can be truly profound. Mindfulness moments have been known to result in resilience to stress and the ability to manage stress in a healthier manner. Come learn how to meditate and reduce stress while increasing your ability to focus, learn, and explore your mind.
Suicide rates nearly returned to their peak in 2021 according to the CDC. Wouldn’t you like to make sure your child never experiences even the thought of suicide? That’s what Mindfulness with Ajia promotes.

Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Training and knowledge are very important to the success and knowing your business. If I had to add a third most helpful aspect to succeeding it would be networking and relationship building. Building and maintaining relationships has been the catalyst to my success in this field. I would not be at the level I am now without connections. More specifically, two women changed my life by not only pointing me in the right direction but also recognizing the work I do and providing resources.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
I started meditating because I needed added practice to help relieve the stress and the unknowing of my acting career. Well, what helped me has now helped thousands of people, turning my hobby into a viable source of income and service.
