Ajay, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?

As a producer, I’ve immersed myself in the world of filmmaking, recognizing its unique power to touch hearts and minds. One project of particular significance to me is “ASYLUM,” a film that addresses the urgent issue of gay rights in African countries, highlighting the fact that being gay is illegal in some places, with severe consequences, including imprisonment.
With projects like “ASYLUM,” my goal is to prompt a deeper understanding of societal issues, ignite conversations, and advocate for positive change. I believe in the transformative power of films to raise awareness and cultivate empathy, ultimately striving to make a meaningful impact on the world.

It’s commendable that we can continue using our creative platform to address important societal issues. Our recent production, “The Lost Years,” addresses the critical subject of police brutality, demonstrating our commitment to raising awareness of such issues in our society. While news reports may be abundant, our film aims to bring a more personal and poignant perspective to the audience.

Currently, I am working on a short film titled “Ties of Darkness,” writer/director Niharika Pushkarna, who is very close to me. When she shared her vision for this project, it inspired me. This film is a psychological thriller that explores how childhood trauma shapes the future lives of certain individuals.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I’m Ajay Mohamed, a multifaceted individual engaged in modeling, acting, and producing. I’ve also had the privilege of directing several music videos. What captivates me most about these creative pursuits is their power to inspire, motivate, and educate our society. In my journey as a producer, I delved into the world of filmmaking, recognizing its unparalleled ability to impact people’s hearts and minds.

Three qualities essential for success are dedication, honesty, and empathy.

Dedication is crucial for the successful completion of any project. The entertainment industry poses its challenges, and there are moments when hope and confidence waver. However, with unwavering dedication, achieving success in this field is undoubtedly possible.

Honesty is vital for adhering to ethical principles and valuing integrity. Trust is often built upon honesty, nurturing positive relationships both personally and professionally.

For me, empathy is the most important quality for achieving success in any field. Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of others. Empathetic individuals are compassionate and considerate, acknowledging and respecting the emotions of those around them. This quality is crucial for building meaningful connections and fostering a supportive environment.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?

I come from India, a country rich in cultural heritage, which I deeply cherish. As a filmmaker, I believe we still haven’t fully convinced our audience to embrace certain types of cinema that can help build a better society by revealing its true colors. Our audience in India can be hesitant to accept unconventional narratives. We must understand that just because we are not educated about something doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist or is wrong.

We need to be more accepting and understanding. Artists have the unique ability to create awareness through their work, and it’s crucial that we promote such efforts as much as possible.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?

My reward comes from knowing that I can make a difference, even in a single person’s life through my work. Personally, I’ve discovered a deep sense of purpose in serving others, a commitment that has evolved with age. As I matured, I recognized that my calling lies in contributing to the well-being of those around me. This sense of purpose manifests in various forms, and for me, it has taken the shape of creating content aimed at fostering a better understanding of social reforms within society. Through my work, I aspire to play a role in guiding and assisting others on their paths as we collectively navigate the journey of life.
