We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Aja Font. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Aja below.
Aja, appreciate you joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Back in 2018, my daughter Joy, who was about five years old at the time got an opportunity to be a children’s clothing brand ambassador. The company requested that she had professional pictures taken of her. Being short on cash, I chose to take photos of her myself, and hope for the best. The company received the photos and ask who took her pictures, assuming they were done professionally. When I told them, I took the photos myself they were very impressed. It sparked something in me and I just started taking photos for fun. Close family members and friends started noticing my growing hobby and encouraged me to look into possibly starting a small photography business. With the help and support of my loved ones I have been able to launch my own photography business and I’m extremely blessed.

Aja, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My business is called Count It All Joy Photography. Not just named after my daughter, but because I count every experience with every client an honor and privilege. My business is faith based so God is the center of everything that I do.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson that I had to unlearn is that I have to have thick skin in this industry. I love my work, and I love to make people smile, but a tough lesson that I’ve had to learn is that everybody is not going to like your work all of the time, regardless of whether you try to work with them, or accommodate them in the best way possible. Some people are just extremely hard to please, and that’s OK. Don’t let the setback set you back have faith in yourself and confidence in your work and keep going.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
My audience on social media is an uphill journey. A lot of my jobs that I have booked have been based on Word of mouth and the quality of what I have produced.. People talk. And once they see the quality of your work, they don’t mind pushing your business.
