We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Aj White. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Aj below.
Aj, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?
To be frank, being on social media is something I enjoy doing. Being able to do the photography on my own, being able to shoot videos on my own has been a blast. Everything is in your control, of course it can be time consuming but if you are in love with the things you do you will plan to make time for it and make it work.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Aj White, I am a 21 year old college student who is about to graduate from Texas Tech University with my Bachelor’s in Universities Studies with a triple minor of Communication Studies, Organizational Leadership, and Financial Literacy. I previously attended the United States Air Force Academy and played collegiate football there. My brand slowly started to develop throughout my time at the Air Force Academy but fully came into the picture once COVID came around. I had more spare time to focus on other activities. Since everyone was locked down and were pretty much forced to be on some platform of social media I decided to take that opportunity and push my brand out to be able to bring some joy and positivity back into the community. Life is too short to just be angry and frustrated all the time, sometimes you have to find your happy medium or a resource to help bring some positivity back into your life. So, I hoped that my platform people could fall back on to use as a boost of motivation, they could use for some joy, or just use for some clarity in life.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
The social media portion definitely took some time to develop but the biggest piece of advice I could give is to just post. It’s so simple yet so difficult. Not posting your content because you’re nervous about it or scared it may not get views could end up costing you. You may never know who will like or view your videos. One of your worst videos in your head may be one of the biggest to go out on the internet but you will never know because it wasn’t posted. Once you start posting and learning your style of how you want things you can see the progress and growth of your content. You can see how your content is growing in the quality that you want it to be at.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think what helped me build my reputation within my market started off by just being involved into my community. I played football back in my home town so a lot of people knew who I was already but I enjoyed being around others and being the “light in a dark place”. I am someone who a majority of the time has a smile on their face and enjoys making people laugh. So once I got into the social media presence I just continued on with what I was doing. Instead of just doing it in person, I would just record my daily life and have people watch from the things that I was doing already. The only difference was me having to record now.
