We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Aj Martinez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with AJ below.
Hi AJ, thanks for joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I feel like you have to surround yourself with people that want more in life. There times where people over think about investing and are one foot in and one foot out. Just do it and don’t look back, we will fail and we must learn from those little mistakes to get better at what we want to accomplish.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I got in this industry 2 years ago. In the beginning I was learning how to work the software, programming everything and how to transfer everything from my laptop to my Photo Booth. It was a lot of learning for sure and eventually started getting better at my craft. I always let my clients choose their templates when I create something custom for them. I last give them the option of picking one template out of the two that I always send them. You have to remember that this is a special event for your client and I always like to make my clients feel special and always want to give them the option to have a choice.
I am definitely proud of myself for mastering the software. In the beginning it was so confusing and had no idea what I was doing. I’ve failed a couple times when it came to creating a custom template but as time came by I started getting a bit creative and went by the theme, colors and whatever the client wanted. I had to think outside the box and figure out how I can stand out differently from other Photo Booth companies. I love my booth and I feel like the custom lights stand out & every time I see people taking pictures it makes me happy because they are having fun taking pics. This business is all about having fun with it because that’s what it’s about!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
My first year I created a business page on Instagram. I started posting and even started using my personal page to share the business one and started getting followers. People started seeing that the Photo Booth was mine, in the beginning people did not know it belong to me since I only shared it on the business side in the beginning. As time came by I started posting content, hired a photographer and started making more content. He made a few videos for me and started taking so many good professional pictures. The outcome was great and it made it look more professional and stood out even more.
The 2nd year I also hired someone to create a website for me and made bookings easier. People can now go on my website and look at my work, events, and ask about my pricing when it comes to their special events. I feel like the content is very important to any business now these days. We have to use social media and take advantage of what we can do with it when it comes to business.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best ones have been grand openings, & corporate events.
Those are always the best ones for me because I get to meet new people & network with people.
