We caught up with the brilliant and insightful AJ Lova a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

AJ, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been one of the most interesting investments you’ve made – and did you win or lose? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)

The best investment I’ve ever made, in terms of time, was dedicating myself to perfecting my writing.** I’ve always prioritized sharpening my pen game and tapping into my creative instincts—it was never just a hobby, it was the foundation. I became an artist purely out of love: love for music, love for poetry, and love for the craft of storytelling. My goal was always to create songs that could live beyond me—whether that meant getting them synced, performed by top-tier artists, or simply resonating with listeners.

I started writing poetry as a preteen, and over time, I fused that passion with my love for singing. What you hear today is the polished result of years of trial and error, growth, and staying true to my voice. The fact that I can sing the words I write just makes the process that much more fulfilling—and fun.

AJ, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

AJ Lova is a multi-talented artist, songwriter, and brand owner originally from Rochester, New York. His journey began at just 11 years old, recording music with his cousin and family friend Dante Hawkins—now an industry songwriter. After years of writing poetry and singing in choirs at Crenshaw High and local churches, AJ found his voice and purpose in music.

Following a brief stint at the Los Angeles Film School for audio engineering, he launched his career with R&B/hip-hop duo Lyrical Expressionz before going solo and rebranding as AJ Lova. That rebrand birthed The LOVA Brand, built on the motto: “LOVE. Be the change you wish to see in the world.”

Known for his signature sound and heartfelt songwriting, AJ has built a catalog of over 500 unreleased records and continues to create weekly. In 2025, he dropped five singles and a standout EP, “The LOVA Trilogy.” His latest release, “Playin’ Games” featuring Quadd21 and AFTAOURS, is already generating buzz—alongside fan-favorite track “Rihanna.”

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?

In my opinion, one of the most impactful ways society can support artists and help sustain a thriving creative ecosystem is by actively engaging with the work they love—**and that starts with something as simple as sharing. Reposting the art and artists you genuinely connect with, just because you love what they do, goes a long way. It not only amplifies their reach, but also builds a culture where creativity is seen, valued, and celebrated.

Beyond social media, real-world action matters too. Calling local venues, radio stations, and event organizers to request performances or appearances by your favorite local artists can directly lead to bookings. Those opportunities create real momentum—and ultimately, they become the foundation of an artist’s career. That kind of support isn’t just appreciated, it’s essential.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?

What drives me on this creative journey is the deep belief that I can create songs just as good—if not better—than what’s currently playing on the radio. That confidence fuels my grind, because I know that once I break through, it won’t just be a personal win—it’ll open the door to a wave of financially empowering opportunities for me and my family.

Ultimately, the dream is full creative freedom. To wake up at any hour of the day or night and make music without the weight of a 9-to-5 holding me back. I want my talent to not only sustain itself, but to fund the life I envision—so I can uplift others who need support, just like I once did.
