We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful AJ Foxx. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with AJ below.
AJ , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
The name Sobremesa Creative Solutions stems from my Mexican background. ‘Sobremesa,’ translating to ‘Upon the table,’ embodies the cherished tradition of post-meal conversations. For me, this term signifies more. it represents moments of gathering around a table, engaging in deep conversations, and sparking creative ideas. Many of my most inspired moments occurred while seated among fellow creatives, brainstorming and exchanging ideas. This name encapsulates my commitment to integrating my culture into my work and reflects my role as a ‘creative solutioner.’

AJ , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi there, I’m AJ Foxx, the founder of Sobremesa Creative Solutions, where I specialize in a diverse range of creative services. My journey into this industry began with a passion for artistic endeavors, gradually evolving into a business as I consistently took on creative projects. Presently, I manage monthly vendor bookings at Tracks/Reelworks in Denver with Ritual Noize, and RU Entertainment. I also book vendors and work on media needs with Circa Vida Entertainment, and Equinox Events. I co-organize events for Share Denver (Colorado’s non-monogamous community), and actively work on expanding event offerings in northern Colorado. Additionally, I handle social media management for Roots & Leaves Kava & Teas.
What truly fills me with pride is the ability to offer opportunities to fellow creatives, enabling them to share their authentic art with the world. For me, every day revolves around art in some form, making it a truly magical experience.
What sets me apart is my neurodivergence and my role as a single mom. Embracing my unique approach to work and life has allowed me to harness my quirks effectively. I’m inherently opportunistic, driven by a passion for fostering community and aiding others in their pursuits. Thriving as myself while assisting others in reaching their potential is a core value I hold dear.
My primary aim as a creative solutioner is to break the barriers that often hinder us in life or artistic expression due to resource limitations. I thrive on problem-solving, firmly believing that where there’s a will, there’s a creative solution waiting to be discovered. I take pride in finding innovative approaches that best serve the objectives at hand.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Being an artist or creative allows me the incredible reward of complete schedule autonomy. Unlike the constraints of a 9-5 job, I’ve discovered the freedom to harmonize work, home, and personal life seamlessly. Office environments weren’t for me—I thrive on having a structured routine while ensuring each day brings new experiences. This flexibility grants me invaluable time with my son, witnessing every milestone without compromise. The ability to dictate my schedule, take needed breaks, and expand my business aligns with my growth while embracing my truest self. It’s the autonomy and authenticity in my creative journey that I find most rewarding.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
Non-creatives might struggle to grasp the stability within the creative journey. Many friends have expressed a desire for a creative career but believe stability solely exists in a 9-5 job. This viewpoint used to feel somewhat disheartening, as if creativity couldn’t provide a steady income. However, being in a creative field doesn’t mean transient work; it’s about understanding the universal language of art and creativity.
I’ve found stability by relying on myself rather than on jobs that view employees as easily replaceable. Creativity offers a path to authenticity and success beyond conventional norms. Life is too short to hate your job/life everyday. Embracing creativity and passion can open doors to a fulfilling, stable career, and allow you to break away from the traditional mold.
