We were lucky to catch up with Aixa Santos Rivera recently and have shared our conversation below.
Aixa , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
When I was in undergrad in my last semester of my Biology degree, I started applying to different universities in Puerto Rico (where I was born and raised). One day, my mom began to have numbness and tingling in her arms and hands so she went to her medical doctor and he refer her to a chiropractor. Couple of weeks later my mom was feeling much better and decide to take me with her to one of the appointments so that I could see what chiropractic was, she said “I think you will like it”; so I went with her. The chiropractor took out 10-15min to explain me what chiropractic is, and the philosophy. I was amazed, and I thought ” I can help other people just using my hands? that’s amazing!”. A week later I received a letter in the mail from a Chiropractic university inviting me to a dinner to learn about chiropractic and the university. I went to the dinner and that day decide to visit the university and less than a year later I was moving to South Carolina to start Chiropractic school. I never thought I would leave my beautiful island and move by myself so far from my family. But it has been one of the best decisions I have made in my life.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m Dr. Aixa Santos, and I’m a Blair Upper Cervical Chiropractor in Seattle, what does that means? I specialize in the upper neck. Why? The weakest area of your spine is the point where your head connects to your neck. Modern day stresses, ranging from excessive bad posture to car accidents, damage the muscles and ligaments that support this area resulting in what is known as an Upper Cervical Subluxation (Vertebral misalignment of the upper neck). The Blair technique uses advanced diagnostic tools to gently correct and realign the upper cervical spine so that the body can naturally return to its normal, healthy and aligned state. I strive to help my patients feel better with less adjustments, so by time they feel better more and have longer term results so they need me less. Some of the cases we see are: vertigo, headaches/migraines, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, neck and back pain, tinnitus, post-concussion syndrome, sciatic pain, numbness and tingling in arms or legs, and much more. If you have try everything and nothing works I invite you to try Blair upper cervical chiropractic, it might be the answer to your questions.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Confidence! You can be the best chiropractor but if you are not confident people will not trust you.

If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
100% yes! I love my job and being able to change peoples lives is amazing.
