We recently connected with Aisha Sayles and have shared our conversation below.
Aisha, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start big picture – what are some of biggest trends you are seeing in your industry?
One of the biggest trends that I am seeing in my industry is that they are finally acknowledging that just because a woman or man comes with extra curves, that does not disqualify them from being beautiful. For as long as I could remember, Plus size fashion was not one that was commonly acknowledged in the fashion industry. Nowadays plus size women are finally placed in garments that accentuate their curves. They are finally being placed in garments that may show their body rolls, stretch marks, body dimples and more. It seems as though curvy fashion is being placed on the forefront and with much more support than ever before.
I would say that my only concern is that The highlights we are currently receiving I temporary, or a phase, if you will. For decades the smaller framed individual was being placed on a pedestal. It wasn’t until the most recent years that plus size. Fashion has been placed on the covers and embraced with love. I also do not want individuals to just jump on and off of the band wagon when it comes to supporting plus size models. There is a daily struggle with dealing with such scrutiny in this industry. We just want to be given the same chances as others.
I can still remember my first ever styling gig. Which happened to be at a vending event that I was simply a vendor. I was asked to style eleven plus size models on the spot. It was such an honor. My brand receives so many compliments for my selections in the way that the pieces were put together with accommodating accessories. The feeling of watching your Vision walked down the runway for the first time it’s one that cannot be explained. No matter how big Stallunique may get, this event will be wonder I will never forget.
Aisha, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Aisha. Everyone knows me as AJ or Queen. I am the owner and founder of Stallunique LLC, which is a plus size exclusive fashion boutique. I don’t conutter my business as a typical boutique. I offer stylist services for personal events and special events. For example, I style plus size models for affairs such as red carpet events down to day to day wear. I even host Parties for plus size beauties want to play “Dress-up.” These are uplifting gatherings for plus-size women that may have self-esteem issues. It puts them in a world where they feel like all eyes are on them. No one can break this spirit. And they truly learn to embrace everything about their bodies. Mental health is a big thing of this day and age. Stallunique chooses to use its platform not only to focus on only caring about what we look like on the outside but what we feel on the inside as well. We offer all kinds of plus-size attire for any occasion, as well as shoes, handbags, and other accessories. Another feature that Stallunique just added to its website is gift cards for those who may be a bit undecisive or who wish to purchase from the newest products that are published weekly.
I also host vision board parties for other entrepreneurs who may have lost focus on their true vision for their businesses. As entrepreneurs, it is easy to fall victim to all of the chaos around you, which entails trying to keep your business afloat. Sometimes we need others around us that are like minded who can help To see things that we may not see our own. Stallunique focuses on trying to bring those like minded individuals together.
The main thing that I want Not potential clients to know, Is that Stallunique sees a bigger picture than just supplying customers with superficial means of clothing. We pride ourselves on building a sisterhood, community that can come together when we need it the most. We also focus on giving back to our community membere that may be less fortunate. If this sounds like a family that you could see yourself being a part of feel free to reach out at any time.
We’d love to hear your thoughts about selling platforms like Amazon/Etsy vs selling on your own site.
Yes I do sell my items on multiple other ecommerce platforms. So far my two favorites are amazon and etsy. They both make adding your inventory or removing it so simple. You also do not have to worry about designing a website, which can be very time consuming. With these being 2 of the leading ecommerce websites, there are already over millions of possible clientele already at your disposal. There are many ad options being offered to help your products be seen.
The con of using this website is that if you get too many bad reviews, even though we all know that you can not make everyone happy, these sites will easily cancel your store. Another con is that you have to pay whatever fees that are applicable to having a store with them. This can hurt you if you are not making enough sales to cover these costs and make a profit.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I try to make it a habit to reach out to previous and potential customers with new sale codes or promotions that are being offered. I also post daily on all social media sites, new content relevant to products that are being offered, sales, and upcoming events.
