We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Aisha Saintiche a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Aisha , thanks for joining us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
I would have to say the BIGGEST I have taken to date is the starting my business and becoming an entrepreneur. Truthfully, if someone would have asked me 10 years ago “Aisha would you ever consider entrepreneurship?” I would have laughed and said no way. But here I am, five years as a business owner and I can’t imagine not being here.
You see, what I have learnt is that starting a new idea isn’t actually the barrier. I think for most people, we generate tons of ideas daily. The struggle – the real challenge is getting past the inner narrative that says, “can this really happen” or “can I really do this?”
I’ve always been someone who took, what I would say, was the safe road. I went to school, got my degrees, got a job in government and felt like I was on the path to success. While life proved to be a good, I felt unfulfilled. I felt like I had more to give, like I had capacity to go beyond what I was doing at work. Still not considering entrepreneurship, I did what most people do. I went back to school, got a Master’s degree and a few more certifications, convinced that all I needed was more “paper” under my belt. Now while the additional education did serve me well in my career, it didn’t stop the feeling like there was more for me out there.
You see, I would come to realize that I had a gift. That I had a purpose and power that was greater than me, and that the work environment I was in (though good) was never going to give me the space to be my authentic self. And so came the land of business ownership.
Truth be told – I had no idea what I was doing… but what I did know was that I was worth the risk!
While my business does continue to grow, the risk of believing in myself remains worth every challenge and certainly every opportunity.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Me to Moi Health, is not just a company—it’s a movement dedicated to empowering individuals to embark on a transformative journey towards self-awareness, self-discovery, and ultimate self-actualization. As the founder and visionary behind Me to Moi, I have used my over 15 years of expertise in mental health, equity, diversity, accessibility, and inclusion to revolutionize the way people perceive and practice self-care.
In a world that often prioritizes external validation over internal well-being, Me to Moi Health stands as a beacon of authenticity and unapologetic self-love. I believe that true empowerment begins with intentional self-care—a practice that extends far beyond bubble baths and face masks. It’s about cultivating a deep understanding of oneself, nurturing the mind, body, and spirit, and reclaiming ownership of one’s narrative.
Through a holistic approach to wellness, we offer a range of transformative experiences, including personalized coaching sessions, immersive workshops, and thought-provoking resources designed to guide individuals on their journey towards self-discovery. Whether you’re navigating life’s challenges, seeking to break free from societal expectations, or simply craving a deeper connection with yourself, Me to Moi Health provides the tools, support, and inspiration you need to thrive.
My commitment to inclusivity and diversity is at the heart of everything I do. I recognize that each individual’s journey is unique, shaped by their experiences, identities, and aspirations. That’s why I strive to create a safe, affirming space where people of all backgrounds feel seen, heard, and valued. From our diverse team of coaches to our inclusive programming, we’re dedicated to honoring the richness of human diversity and fostering a sense of belonging for all.
As for what I am proud of, there are truly so many things. Through this process I authored my first book called “She is Just Getting Started.” I was recognized as one of the Top 30 women Leaders to watch out for in 2023. And I was asked to be one of the leadership coaches for the Canadian Olympic Committee. Not too bad for someone who never thought entrepreneurship was her thing!
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One of the biggest lessons I had to unlearn was that (and this is my mantra) “no one is responsible for queuing you into your greatness”. You see prior to this revelation, I operated with a mindset that said your personal growth required “others” to validate when it was time to move up. while this seems like a harmless mindset, the issue (which I learnt the hard way) was that someone with a limited mindset about themselves would and could never see you as greater than them. As such, the reliance on external validation was a dead end.
For me this reality smacked me in the face when I went for a position that I did not get and was told that I needed “a bit more experience.” While there is value in constructive feedback, this particular scenario was not that.
I was devastated. I was devastated because up until that point, I had done “all the things” that I felt and was told were demonstrations of leadership – and yet it wasn’t enough. While the reality of that outcome was a hard lesson to learn, it would turn out to be one of my greatest lessons. You see it was at that moment that I determined that I would no longer allow the value of others to supersede the value and awareness I had of myself.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
One word – consistency. While I would consider myself to still be a “junior” in the world of entrepreneurship, consistency has proven to be an asset for me.
Staying focused on my plan, building new and captivating content and staying abreast of key and relevant issues is what has built my reputation these last 5 years.
