We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Aisha Pasha-Evans a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Aisha, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
ATC HairCare is a hair product line that target those with curly and textured hair to provide regrowth solutions, replenish dry hair, prevent from hair loss, and help maintain healthy hair. There are so many products in the market that causes cancer and other underlying illnesses when used on the hair and causes toxins when sprayed in the air. Our mission is to provide safe products that can be used on the hair to prevent hair loss and achieve a nice healthy look. That’s why our products are formulated with ingredients that are safe for the Hair, Health, and the Environment.
Aisha, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Aisha Pasha-Evans, the founder and CEO of ATC HairCare. I’m also a Salon owner and Master Licensed Hairstylist known to the beauty industry as Aisha The Cosmetologist with over 21 years of experience. My education includes a degree in Early Childhood and a background in banking, teaching, business, and Cosmetology State Board Examining.
As a child, I would always style my own hair, play in dolls hair, and later as a teenager do my family and friends hair. I knew then that one day I would contribute to the beauty industry. As an adult, after adopting the beauty industry, I then found that many of my clients were suffering from hair loss, so I then found a great passion in doing research on what grows the hair back. After doing research, I then decided to mix up ingredients until I found a solution that really worked. I became a product knowledge hairstylist and knew that one day I would eventually have my own line of hair products.
Over the years of providing hair services and treatments on my clients, I then met a chemist and decided that it was time to give birth to this awesome product line. ATC HairCare was then launched in May of 2019 and re-launched in July of 2019. With so many products with ingredients that cause underlying illnesses and cause toxins to the environment, I decided to make sure that all of my products were safe not just for the hair, but also safe for your health and the environment as well. The Silk Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner were first released and months later the main product called More Hair Therapy Solution was then released.
ATC HairCare now have a total of 9 products and is constantly expanding. My hair team have been seen at local events in the Wisconsin area and at hair events in the Illinois area. I educate and train teenagers and young adults about ATC HairCare and how to professionally sell. I recently received local awards and acknowledgement for my work. My team and I go out into the communities at fairs, events, and hair shows to provide hair demonstrations and educate potential customers about the products. This great product line is currently sold in three different locations along with a website.
We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.
When I first started as a hairstylist, I began to have a lot of clients, children and women adults that were suffering from hair loss in the hairline area, crown area, and some were missing patches of hair in different areas. I always had to camouflage their look, but after a few years of doing that, I got tired and decided to do research on what makes the hair grow back. I then started mixing up my own ingredients, tested it on clients, and came up with a solution that actually worked. For years I was known as the hairstylist that could grow hair back. But then one day, I attended a hair seminar in the Illinois area and that’s where I met my first chemist that was able to assist me with starting my own product line. A year later, I launched my first two products and then later searched and met another chemist that helped with the making of my main product. I currently have a total of 9 products and 3 different chemists.
Over the years of producing products, I’ve learned many things about chemists and manufacturing companies. One of the biggest lessons that I’ve learned is to make sure you choose the right chemist and manufacturing company that can make products that fit your brand and needs. If you’re looking to leverage your products in larger quantities and in larger places, then you need to find a chemist that work at a manufacturing company that not just can produce small runs but can also produce large runs. Also, make sure you discuss with your chemist if they only make custom-made products or private labeling products. I suggest that if you already have a product that’s doing well that you make yourself then you can allow your chemist to make that a custom-made product and then do private labeling for the rest of your products but with ingredients that you like and want to cut the cost with the making of your products.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I believe what helped me build my reputation within my market was first me being a hairstylist for so many years and using my product to grow client’s hair back and then also I would vendor at hair shows, pop-up events, and fairs. Clients first knew me and then customers began to know me in the local areas and communities because I set up vendor booths to promote, demonstrate, sale, and educate people about my products. I also attended lots of networking events in which I always made sure a card landed in many people hands. I believe leveraging into different local store locations helped too. I used to market on social media literally every day. But now I market at least 3 times a week. Marketing is always very important, and I believe that is how I became known to others.
