We were lucky to catch up with Aisha Del Rosario recently and have shared our conversation below.
Aisha, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
As a single mother and limited resources recently laid off, I find myself taking the biggest risk of my life by spending my time, savings and resources to embark on a journey into the creative and performing arts space. There is no way of knowing how and when my platforms and talents will monetize. However, it’s the risk I am willing to take. For the first time in my life, I am betting on me.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Aisha Del Rosario, and I am a host of my very own YouTube channel and Podcaster of “HonesTEA with According2Aisha”. After a long bout with depression and anxiety I took to the microphone my first podcast back in 2019 to discuss childhood and adult trauma. What began as a monologue of transparent life experiences and learning lessons, led me to being contacted by Casting Directors for reality tv shows. I continued to work in my fulltime corporate career as a Recruiter for major corporations and soon discovered that I had a natural on-air personality. I decided to use my personality, corporate foundation, and ability to speak candidly about the connection between childhood trauma and depression to build a new and improved podcast.
After being laid off from my corporate job earlier this year, I took a sabbatical and used that opportunity to promote my debut on the premiere reality television show, “Asking for a Friend” hosted by LisaRay on TVOne which coincidentally aired on a month to the day I was laid off. I also took advantage of the down time to build my podcast, create my own television network and spend time developing my dating app that was created back in 2020. Suddenly entrepreneurship became my new project; not because I was never going back to work but because it was important to me that my talents and products were available so that I may help those who struggle with childhood trauma, emotional and mental disorders. My goal is to provide talk therapy, resources and platforms for men and women to heal and rediscover life as they want it to be and not what it was forced to be.
I am most proud of the courage to one, do the shadow work. My self-discovery and shadow work will always be the pillars for which I am able to create platforms, products, and services to serve the GAD (General Anxiety Disorder) and Mental Health community. I am most proud of the relaunch of my podcast including my in-home studio I created from scratch. It serves as an example of how determined (and innovative) I am to create a space for my work and my life purpose.
When it’s all said and done, I want my community of followers to know they are not alone. I want them to know there is a happy ending and they have a safe place with “HonesTEA with According2Aisha” to be seen and heard. All the products and services my entrepreneurial venture offers are all by-products of my dedication to healing hearts one conversation at a time.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
My resilience will always be my ability to push through being a teen mother at 16 years old and dropping out of high school, married, and divorced by 35 years old and go through multiple bouts of depressive episodes because of these life events. I managed to seek counseling, move my children to an affluent and thriving community in Atlanta all while working full-time sometimes and contracting most. I managed to get my bachelor’s degree and master’s within 4 years at age 47. I consider myself an inspiration of hope.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
My last company was the best place I’d ever worked in my entire career. The culture, its values and their business model all resonated with me and allowed me to show up as the best version of myself every day. When it came to an end, I felt as though I would never have that stroke of luck again. Corporate politics had drained me and the only way I felt I could continue was to be with this company or one just like it. I decided I wouldn’t job hunt immediately after. Instead, I used this time to pivot and do some self-discovery. Afterall, I spent the last 2 years with some of the smartest and brightest humans who were doing their life’s purpose. It was only right that I use that experience and layoff to use mine and get paid for it. The universe heard my call and provided me with a sabbatical that allowed me to revisit my creative and business side. And so, the pivot began without my permission. I am rolling with it. I am the host of my own Podcast and YouTube channel, the creator of my own dating app and CEO of my very own television network, PLUStv on the ROKU platform. I will continue to pursue professional acting, event hosting and reality tv so that I may continue to live in my creative space and authentic personality. I have never been intimidated by the camera and I am a natural storyteller. This pivot was written and I am walking in it.
