As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Airam Camacho, I am 8 years old, and I am a proud Latina actress, dancer, and singer. Covid was a window of opportunity for me. Before covid hit, I was a very active 5-year-old playing soccer and dancing jazz. My mom was looking for activities I could do at home while being in pandemic. We started with virtual pageants, just for fun and I ended up becoming Mexico’s representative for Mini Universo at Cartagena de Indias, Colombia. This was one of my greatest accomplishments as a 6-year-old. I had the honor of being dressed by Mitzy ” El diseñador de las Estrellas”, who I met at the red carpet for “The Pink Floyd experience” where he introduced me to the media as his only official child model. Going back a bit, I’ve been a Jazz and Hip-hop dancer at Move Dance Studio for three years. Loving every moment of it. I Have participated in several competitions winning 1st place, and I will soon be dancing at Disneyland along with my competition team. Recently, I had the opportunity to be in a workshop with Majnoon, Madonna’s and Rosalia’s choreographer for the Moto Mami Tour. As a dancer, this is by far the biggest accomplishment, and I am still processing this experience. I was chosen to film a part for his upcoming Netflix documentary, and just hearing him tell me I am great dancer meant the world to me.
My acting career started at the age of 5. I auditioned for Televisa’s acting school and made it! I was able to complete the 2-year program (online because of the pandemic) and I am proud to say I am a CEA Infantil graduate! Thousands of kids audition every year for this free acting school, and I was one f the lucky ones to be accepted. From this, door started opening for projects. My first project was in a Televisa show ” De Noche con Yordi”. after this project, I booked a movie role which took me to Playa del Carmen for over 3 months. ” Autumn and the Black Jaguar” will be premiering in France in February 2024, following with a cinematic release in several countries. After that, I have participated in several commercials and TV promos. I participated in a music video for Fuerza Regida, “Descansando” which has over 99 million views on YouTube. I also had the opportunity to share a project with comedian Paul Rodriguez, Danny Trejo best known as “Machete”, Gabriela Vergara, Hope Diaz under the direction and production of Rene Bueno and Barbarella Pardo. “Todavia Conmigo” is another film I participated in which will release this year starring Luis Ernesto Franco and Barbara Lopez. I will also appear in one episode of season 5 Mayans MC, directed by JD Pardo. My latest project was with Telemundo in a series that will air soon.
Singing is something that I’ve always loved. One of my goals is to do musical theater, so I started taking vocal lessons with “Tachiquin Music & Vocals” and I am loving every part of the process. I have learned and performed anything from mariachi music to ballads.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of my career has been seeing the results of my hard work. When I was in acting school, I started my day at 7:00 am finished at 8:00 pm, non-stop. After that I would do homework, memorize scripts if I had any upcoming castings and practice for competition. I missed out on family gatherings and parties, but It didn’t matter to me because I love every part of what I do. A lot of people think being in movies, TV is easy, but they don’t see the long hours of filming or memorizing scripts, long scripts, creating a character and doing schoolwork in between. One condition my mom has, in order for me to continue to pursue in acting, dancing and singing, is keeping up my grades, which I can proudly say I’ve always been top of my class. Although some of the most important projects I’ve done have not aired yet, I feel accomplished and ready to take on more.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to make a positive impact on anyone, especially young Latino kids. Kids have big dreams, and everyone can make their dreams and goals happened with determination and perseverance. I started from dancing in my house and recording videos on my mom’s cellphone and my tablet. I’ve worked my way up and keep preparing myself because there’s a lot of talent out there. I’ve experienced several “no’s”, many callbacks, and some “on-hold”, which have not taken me to book the project. It’s ok though, because that’s how you learn, that’s how you start to get known and I just build upon those moments. What’s meant to be for you, will happen, and I am confident about myself and what I can accomplish. That’s something I want kids to know, I want to somehow be an example, a voice and encouragement to those kids with big dreams.
