Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to AIR SKY. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, AIR thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you share an important lesson you learned in a prior job that’s helped you in your career afterwards?
My important lesson was to get out of a job when you notice that you are no longer happy there. I was a Scheduler at a home health agency and I can honestly say that I hated that job. I was so unhappy and wanted to leave so bad. I can remember me crying before work and having to suck it up because this is what paid the bills. I was afraid to quit due to having those bills and actually making a living on my own. I will say that it produced a lot of blessings. With that job, it helped me get my first car in my name, my first one-bedroom apartment, and I was able to have extra money on the side for my music after ALL my bills were paid. I literally was 2 months ahead on rent because I was making decent money. But I hated it. I hated that my 9-5 robbed me of my happiness. So I quit. I now am a solely full-time creative and I couldn’t be happier. I still go through trials, maybe worse than when I had my 9-5, but I am at my happiest now. Do what makes you happy.
AIR, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am AIR SKY and I am one of the best RNB artists in Dallas, TX. I write music and also perform. I honestly consider myself as an entertainer. I have performed in numerous cities like Atlanta, Miami, Houston, LA and many more. I have opened for Ginuwine, Big Latto and recently performed at Enchant 2022 which was sponsored by the Hallmark Channel. I have music on all platform such as Apple Music and Spotify.
I have been in the music industry for 3 years now and have learned so much. Not only the creative aspect of it, but lately have been understanding the business side as well. I now know and understand the importance of treating your music like it is a business. As an artist, you are a business and you have to think that way.
I now have a company call “AIR SKY Entertainment LLC” and also have a clothing brand coming out called “AS IS” which helps people remind themselves to be who they are because “you come as is”. No one can change that and you shouldn’t allow them to. I also host at a radio station call Villa Koola Radio which is an underground radio station for underground artists.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I believe non-creatives need to understand that as a creative, we choose to take a road that is less traveled. Our road consists of a lot of inconsistency that non-creatives will not understand. We live in a life that is hard and not easy. Yes, we chose this road, but I rather go down a hard road that brings happiness than an easy road that brings comfort. Creatives live in a world of uncomfort but we learn to deal with them in a serene way because this is what makes us happy. So since we going through a hard road, non-creatives, cut us some slack lol.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
YES! I wish i knew about taxes, LLCs, credit, and many more. Things that should have been in school lol. I wish I had someone to teach me about other ways to make and save money than slaving at a corporate job.
