We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ainslie MacLeod a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ainslie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
As a child growing up in Scotland, I saw ghosts, had vivid premonitions, and could always tell when someone was lying. And what seems crazy now is that yet I never for one moment thought I was psychic. I obstinately clung to my “rational” view of the world and wrote everything off as coincidence.
Then, the spirit world whacked me over the back of the head with a metaphysical 2×4 and finally got my full attention. On a trip to Hawaii, I ran into my uncle in a bookstore in Kauai, which was something of a surprise since he’d been dead for over a decade. He appeared slightly to my right, looking just as he had in life, and was there for about a second. And he gave me a very clear message. He said that in his capacity as a spirit guide, he wanted to work with me. A few weeks later I made my first intentional attempt to communicate with him on the other side. I was blown away to find I actually could.
Through my Uncle John, I was introduced to a higher level of spirit guides, whose entire purpose is to help those of us on the physical plane make the most of our time here. This was the very start of my work as a past-life psychic, which was quite a departure from my previous career as an illustrator for ad agencies and the likes. Quite a life changing moment.
Ainslie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
When I first started, I called myself the reluctant psychic because I previously wasn’t a believer. It took me a long time to overcome my deeply held beliefs in, well, nothing. At least nothing beyond what I could see and touch. So, if you think talking to invisible entities in the soul world is weird, join the club.
A lot of psychics would tell me I was psychic – they would just come up to me randomly in the airport, in London pubs, everywhere. And they’d often say I should be doing something with it, but I was so resistant and didn’t believe I had the ability, or that anyone did for that matter. I later wished I had paid more attention so I could’ve gotten on the path a little sooner.
I also used to see psychics often, telling myself I was there to debunk them. Truth was I really did believe – at least on a soul level. My human mind just hadn’t quite caught up yet.
I help people reconnect to their soul level selves, discover the blueprint their soul created for this life before they were born, and heal the things blocking them from living the life their soul intended. The system I use for this is called The Instruction, and was taught to me by my spirit guides over a three week period.
Most people come to me wanting to know what their soul came here to do, and what’s blocking them from getting there. I also get lots of people coming to me with mystery illnesses that western medicine can’t solve, or big fears and phobias that have no apparent connection to this incarnation. Past-life trauma is quite often the root of these things.
What are you most proud of in your career?
I’m very proud of the life-changing physical healings clients have had from this work: Stuttering, psoriasis, Crohn’s, fertility issues, migraines, sleepwalking, an inability to urinate, chronic inexplicable pain, and lots more. Recently I had a client who had had psoriasis for 57 of her 59 years of life and after we found the past-life cause, it healed completely within a couple weeks. I’m also really proud that after 25 years, I still treat every session as if it’s the most important one I’ve ever done. No one gets a sloppy job.
What do you want people to know about you?
Well, it’s really not about me. It’s about bringing this work to as many people as possible so they can experience true healing, because almost everything is rooted in past lives. I’m not saying this is a cure all, but it’s a very important piece of the puzzle for most people. I just want people to experience more freedom, healing, fulfillment, and connection to their souls.

Have you ever had to pivot?
I used to be a freelance illustrator. I had a wonderful and successful career, but by the end, I couldn’t pull another brushstroke out of me. I so wanted to move into doing spiritual work after my experience with the ghost of my Uncle John, and getting more comfortable working with my guides. It was a massive life change – a lot of people discouraged me. My family members basically harped on the likes of, “What’s the minister going to think, and what are the neighbors going to say?”
When I told my brother (someone with whom I’m very close, but spirituality is a topic on which we differ), he peered over his pint of lager, looked me straight in the eye and asked with mock sincerity, “So what’s your website then, barkingfuckingmad.com?” I’d like to report that I have since purchased that domain.
I can’t think of anyone who was supportive during this transition, but I was so certain this is what I was meant to do. And it still gives me so much satisfaction even after 25 years.
If you live your life according to the worldview of others instead of your own, you’re not going to look back from your deathbed pleased that you did so. It’s worth pointing out that it can be comforting to have the approval of those you love, but it should never be at the cost of living the life your soul came here to experience.
Also as a side note: To satisfy the artist in me, I’ve since picked up oil painting. I’ll attach some photos below.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to relearn a lot of spiritual principles that I took as fact in books I’d previously read. It was a wonderful epiphany to realize I could go straight to the source (my spirit guides) to check all these things out. Their answers were very clean, straight-forward, and loving. For example, it was a game changer to learn from my guides that karma isn’t punishment. It’s just your soul looking to rebalance energy from past lives, and it doesn’t only show up in difficult ways.
Relearning all of these principles was also a huge lesson in discernment – remembering to pause before taking something as fact and checking in with my own feelings and the spirit guides.
