We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Aimee Zetina. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Aimee below.
Aimee, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you take us back in time to the first dollar you earned as a creative – how did it happen? What’s the story?
I had just started launching myself as a an artist on social media & performing. Then the pandemic hit & at the peak of it Spanish music was the “it” thing. I earned my first contract with live nation to do a livestream concert for about 20,000 people online.
Aimee, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I always loved singing & writing. I started recording songs I made up on my Barbie cassette recorder at the age of 4. I performed at school talent shows & audition for plays. Once I got rejected especially at the time for being a little latina girl I just went about my life never thinking I would pursue music, until I met my producer Eddie Escalante. We met & he would show me his music. I was honestly impressed & he brought up the idea of me becoming an artist. I thought it was funny because I had already pursued a different career but being an artist is something I deeply wanted to do my whole life. I began recording & building my sound for a year. The following year without knowing a lot or anyone I just threw myself on social media & branded myself. The best advice I can give is to invest your own money into yourself & build a character/ brand behind your artistry. Within a few months of putting my first music video out, I was interviewed by Mega 96.3 one of the biggest stations for Spanish music in LA. After that I was booked to perform almost every weekend at every club in LA you could think of for the rest of the year. I think what set me apart from everyone was my social media character & artist character that everyone truly just loves authentically.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I think non creatives struggle to understand a creative all the time. I am a mom as well, so I’m sure people don’t understand the work ethic that goes into content. I’m sure people assume I’m not a busy person & all I do is make some videos. I take days to film & do photoshoots. It can take hours for just a 2 min video. I also juggled two jobs at one point & my kids. In reality every post has thought & is planned. When you have a motive & goal, you are going to get your work done. My social media is my identification card for whoever runs across it so it’s always important for me to keep it up & stay fresh with things people are going to like to see. However, it’s super rewarding when I break it down to people in real life because they are very receptive & give me props.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Growing up my dad would play all kinds of music but also made me watch so many documentaries on music. Varying from the Beatles to Hispanic legends like Juan Gabriel. I was shown really strong artist since I was little. Watching live sessions while the Beatles recorded really taught me to enter another world when I personally record. The way they had their set up & were so free was so ahead of anyone’s time. Fast forward to today, watching interviews & endless hours of music videos of all genres has helped me pick up so many different things & just place it back to my artistry. Even though my artistry as “AimeeBby” is so different & modern, a lot of oldies, old school reggaeton & Latin pop helped me learn to build my sound. There is always something to learn & the tools are free.
