We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Aimee Tuck. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Aimee below.
Hi Aimee, thanks for joining us today. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
Pre-existing pregnancy and baby subscription boxes can be wonderful gifts for new and expecting moms, but as perinatal and infant mental health therapists, we wanted to bring something unique to this space. When Jen and I founded Bloom and Rise, our goal was to design a subscription box that went beyond the traditional offerings, taking a therapeutic approach to support both mom and baby.
Bloom and Rise is curated to provide not only practical, adorable, and high-quality items sourced from women-owned businesses, but also products that thoughtfully nurture a baby’s social, emotional, and motor development. Each box is packed with tools to encourage bonding, play, and self-care, helping to foster meaningful interactions between mom and baby. In addition, we include custom-made resources we’ve developed as therapists, specifically designed to support moms facing various challenges, from everyday stress to deeper emotional struggles. Bloom and Rise is more than just a subscription box—it’s a comprehensive toolkit for new mothers on their journey.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Bloom and Rise began as a passion project inspired by our work as therapists at Rise Wellness Collaborative in Ann Arbor. In supporting women and babies through various stages of their journeys, we noticed a recurring, unmet need: once the postpartum period begins, many moms feel overlooked or less valued than their babies. This insight led us to create Bloom and Rise—a subscription box designed to genuinely support moms with essentials for both wellness and self-care.
Our boxes offer thoughtful, practical items to help new mothers feel cared for, including protein snacks, refillable water bottles, and self-care tools like journals, candles, books, and therapeutic resources. Each box is a gift that brings nourishment and comfort right to a mom’s doorstep, arriving when she might need it most.
In addition, we recently launched a pregnancy loss box to provide compassionate support for those experiencing this difficult journey. This box, created by therapists specifically trained in grief and pregnancy loss, also draws from Jen’s personal experience, ensuring it’s crafted with deep empathy and understanding. Bloom and Rise isn’t just a subscription box; it’s a thoughtful way to say, “I’m here for you.”
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
The inspiration for founding Rise Wellness Collaborative came from my own challenging perinatal and postpartum journey. After giving birth in 2019, I experienced a traumatic delivery followed by postpartum depression and episodes of intense rage. Caught in a whirlwind of grief, sadness, and anger, I reached out for help with both medication management and therapy—only to find it difficult to connect with a therapist who truly understood perinatal mental health. Meeting other new moms who could relate also felt like an uphill battle.
This experience ignited my passion for supporting the perinatal community, leading me to become trained in advanced perinatal mental health through Postpartum Support International. Recognizing the gap in support, I joined forces with my business partner, Jen Burke, an expert in infant mental health—a specialty that complements perinatal mental health—to establish Rise Wellness Collaborative. My own survival journey has now become the greatest privilege of my life: supporting local moms as they navigate their own unique paths through parenthood.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
The cornerstone of building our reputation has been showing up as our authentic selves, 100% of the time. We own our mistakes and apologize when necessary, we advocate for women’s reproductive rights, and we recognize that parenthood is often messy and far from perfect. And yes, we love a good laugh, too.
At the same time, we bring expertise to our work. We’re deeply trained in working therapeutically with the perinatal population—and we’re part of that community ourselves. This realness has helped us form genuine connections with others. We know what we stand for, and we’re clear about who we want to support.
