We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Aimee Saturne. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Aimee below.
Aimee, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
I am a huge advocate of starting any dream or aspiration as early as possible- no time wasted, the sooner the better! If you find a passion within your heart that you want to pursue, you should absolutely begin your journey. It’s never too late, but it’s also never too early. I don’t think I know anyone (myself included) who wishes they would’ve started their creative career any later than they did. The longer you’re at it, and the more persistent you are, the further you go.
Aimee, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Aimee Saturne, and I’m a singer, songwriter, actress, voice actress, podcaster and twitch affiliate! If you couldn’t already tell, I tend to dabble in all of the avenues that make my heart soar with no holds barred. I’ve been involved in the creative realm since I was a child, always interested in various mediums and pursuing them where and when I could. Art in all forms has always been such a beautiful thing to me- being able to share bits of your heart and soul with an audience who understands you, or interprets it in their own way is such a valuable thing. I knew from a very young age that I wanted to be apart of something like that, something bigger. This led me into acting, singing, and all kinds of other mediums in the entertainment industry. Acting is my first love, and so I ultimately pursued that first and foremost, performing in theatre and taking roles in film. When YouTube started seeing a surge of new singers and musicians, I decided to try my hand at that, thus leading me into becoming what I consider to be a successful independent recording artist today. I’ve since released two self-produced full-length records, and after garnering a production team, various singles in the electronic, dark pop and pop genres. Though I do have a team behind the official music I release, I still do work very much on my own when it comes to writing and producing music, and enjoy being able to maintain complete and total control to be able to use my songs as an honest outlet emotionally and mentally.
Sharing my music with the world has been such a joy to me, and becoming a Twitch Affiliate has only helped further that. I’ve always been a gamer at heart, playing video games since childhood- for as long as I can remember. Wanting to share that love and passion as well, to connect with the audience that only knew me through my music, garnered a lot of fun new opportunities not only within the gaming industry, but by allowing my music to reach new ears as well.
It’s been a long journey, one that never ends and always surprises me at every turn. but I’m extremely proud of how far I’ve come and how much further I know that I can go! Belief in yourself is so important. If you believe anything is possible, anything is possible.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I’m honestly so glad that this is a question. Growing up and to this day still, plenty of people I know and even don’t know, always ask me why I’ve chosen this path; why I’ve decided to stick to something that’s so uncertain, that doesn’t pay much in the beginning, that offers more struggle and hardship than reward, and that isn’t “a real job.” I always tell them, because I love to do it. Because it makes me happy. Because I couldn’t quit if I wanted to. Most non-creatives don’t understand why I don’t just give up and get a corporate job, call all of my hard work a loss and “move on” because I’m not making millions (yet!). But when you feel like your purpose in life is to do something, you do it, and you do it with all of your heart for as long as it takes to get to where you need to be to satisfy your own ideals. Most of us as creatives are never satisfied, and so we continue to push on, to push our limits and to continue to grow and evolve and learn. My creative passions are just as much a part of me as my flesh and bones are, and to not pursue them would be so wasteful of what many consider a blessing. So many people go through life unsure of what they want, unsure of their own talents. I’m very grateful I’ve always known that being a creative was something I wanted to do with my life. While it’s one of the hardest paths I’ve ever taken, I love to do these things more than I can express, and the rewards, as rare as they can be sometimes, certainly do outweigh the hardships. It’s a challenge I’ve always been willing to rise to, and I’ll always be proud to say that pursing my creative passions are at the forefront of what I do in life and they forever will be, no matter how many times people laugh about it or attempt to change that through their own misunderstanding. I never want to wake up one day and wonder “what if.” I’m dedicated to my craft for life.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Starting out in my own career with social media, I wasn’t exactly sure how people were gaining such an audience so quickly and I wished I had a sort of “survival guide” back then- so I’m happy to explain what I did in hopes that maybe someone out there can take from this and implement it in their own journey! It’s all about being engaged and creating interesting content. Social media trends and algorithms change so quickly and suddenly; a perfect example is how Instagram used to be about posting photos… Now it’s all about Reels. Staying on top of trends is a key component to getting your content out there, but it’s not just about following the leader- it has to be relevant to you and your craft. It has to be authentic. In this day and age, where everything is so fake, authenticity is valued and appreciated by your audience. It’s always inspiring to know someone you like or look up to is just like you at the end of the day! Being involved in the community that you’re apart of, making yourself known in your respective field is also very important in growing your audience. My biggest piece of advice is to be a go-getter. Don’t be afraid to post something out of fear of what others may think, or because you feel silly about talking yourself up. Half of being a creative is shameless self promotion. We make art and want to share it with others. If you’re not putting yourself out there, no one will know you’re there!
