We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Aidas Anceravicius a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Aidas, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I would not be where I am today without the support and encouragement of my parents. I am also very grateful to my first coach, Jouzas who was the wind beneath my wings when I began riding at the age of six. Although there were no motorcycles available for my size at that age, Jouzas used his eagerness to explore possibilities and his ‘golden hands’ to custom build a motorcycle to get me going on the racetrack. The lesson I was always taught is “If you are passionate about something, no matter the difficulties it presents, with the right attitude, and the right mindset, anything is possible.” These words lit a fire in me and I am at a place where I can tell you, my mentors were correct. Starting a new business was a very daunting experience. Throw in a pandemic that threatened our very existence and the pressure, at times, was almost unbearable. It takes determination, drive, and passion to keep going when the odds are against you. My passion for motorcycles drives me and it is that drive that has helped with some of the success of my business. I live by the notion that “it takes a village.” I’ve applied this principle to how we do business at Colorado Moto Service. My team is my village – we have been working for the past few years on trying to onboard the right people – people with the same mindset and drive, people who are able to see the vision and want to grow with us. I strongly believe we are getting there. Without my ‘village’/team and my family, my success story would be very different.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I was born in Siberia. Both of my parents are from Lithuania. They met in Siberia while working there, I am the third of four siblings. In 1990 when the Berlin wall collapsed, my parents went back to Lithuania with the family. We lived there for 11 years and then moved here to Colorado in 2001. As a child in Siberia and Lithuania my father had motorcycles and I always enjoyed being on the backseat or on the side car of his three wheeled motorcycle since a young age. It was during those early days that I developed a love for riding and I have been riding and racing motorcycles ever since. I began riding mini motorcycles and scooters when I was six years old. At age nine, my parents and sponsors bought me my first dirt bike which I used to join a Lithuanian Motocross team. Despite the size of the dirt bike, 125cc 2 stroke old Czech Republic CZ motorcycle, it was all I needed to pursue my career and fuel my love for motorcycles. I was the youngest racer in the nation. My feet could hardly reach the ground while sitting on my new motorcycle (over a foot off the ground). For more knowledge to fuel my passion and career, I have completed over 4 years of formal motorcycle mechanic education. After working in the industry for more than a decade, acquiring a full array knowledge and experience, we have Colorado Moto Service – an independent import motorcycle repair shop. We Provide the highest repair quality work to different manufacture brands. We repair and service anything from the 1970’s to current models. We have assembled a highly skilled team of knowledgeable technicians with more than 50 years of experience in the industry ranging from motocross, flat track, road racing backgrounds and decades of motorcycle dealership experience.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Having a passion for what I do along with my education and experience in the industry. I believe that our customers deserve honest, fair, and quality work. I stand behind our promise to do the work correctly the first time leaving little to no room for error and if there is any error, I will rectify it. Many of my customers have followed me from my previous places of employment due to work ethic.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
I met my wife and business partner, Widelyne, while working in the Turks and Caicos Islands. I was there assisting my father on a one-year stint. Widelyne was the finest employee at the bank where we did business and I was determined I was going to get to know her. She agreed to date me while I was on the Island and I continued to pursue her long distance after I moved back to Colorado. Three years later I went back to the Island, asked her to marry me and the rest is history. We moved back to Colorado where we began our family and put our business plan into motion. She has been in finance for over 15 years, and she takes care of our finances and HR issues. She prefers to remain in the background but she makes her presence felt. Together, we have three children and we are working around the clock to secure the growth of our business.
