We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Aicha Soumaoro a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Aicha, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the story behind how you got your first job in field that you currently practice in.
I got my first job offer during the pandemic. 2020 was a hard time to find a job especially in the automotive world. I went through six different interviews and all decline. Everyone loved my resume and saw my potential, but never gave me the opportunity to show my potential till one day one of my mentor. call me out the blue and said hey are you would you be able to move to Atlanta Mercedes-Benz is hiring and they’re interested in a female tech. I was like yes I will move yesterday. Went down for an interview within two weeks. I got a job offer letter sent in my email that Thursday. I packed my load and drove 12 hours to Atlanta.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Some may know some may not know, but I am a field specialist and an auto technician. Both jobs safe lives, one using nursing skills and the other using mechanical skills. On weekdays, I am a nurse and all weekends. I’m a technician so if you guys are in Philadelphia, I work at TMGM we do basically oil changes brakes, all inspections and etc..
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
If I went back, I feel like I was still choose the same profession because all my life I was always a helpful person.

Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
The most helpful knowledge to succeed in my field is being patient and willingness to learn. You have to listen to every issues every noise every sound every details
