We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ahmel Wilson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ahmel below.
Hi Ahmel, thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Ever since a kid I say about the age of 6-7, I told my mom I wanted to be a music superstar like Michael Jackson, Usher, Kanye West, etc. Fast forward to 2018, and that’s when I told my brother Toshiki Khi I wanted to do this seriously and make something out of myself with so I’ve always wanted to pursue this career path ever since I could talk.

Ahmel, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Ahmel Wilson aka, Scotty Blaze, aka The Ultra Sonic King. I was born and raised in Mississippi Hattiesburg and Jackson to be exact. I got into music seriously at 17 years old but have been writing and creating since I could form sentences haha and some of my biggest influences range from Kanye West, Sade, Travis Scott, Donald Glover, and Tyler the Creator. I think what sets me apart from others is my vulnerability within my music and I take blends from all my influences within my music, I’m very versatile within my sound as well I can give you that gritty southern rap mix with east cost presence but also can turn up and give you melodies and harmonies as well. I think my projects Love is War and Act III can speak all of that for themselves, those are 2 projects are tapes I’m very proud and I look to those 2 when convincing or showing people my art is pure, raw, and amazing.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I think the best thing for our society to support artists is to buy our product, music, pieces, etc. so we can capitalize on it and make even more amazing work. with how today works, in a couple of years I feel it’ll be hard for artists to make a living and have a foundation in our work because everybody’s doing the same thing and some labels take advantage of upcoming artist in so many ways. so buy that song for an artist, or piece, etc. that goes a long way in helping us take back creative freedom and control.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Yes, at the end of the day, I hope to be one of the next renaissance artists for our generation. like many other greats such as Pharrell, Donald Glover, Kanye West, etc. I want to be able to make amazing and cool stuff and have people love it the same or just as much as me that’s just not in music but in future films, clothing, and whatever creative opportunity and passion that crosses my path, I want to be able to conquer those and when it’s all set and done they’ll remember me for my legendary run.
