Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ahmed Badr. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Ahmed, thanks for joining us today. Have you been able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen? Was it like that from day one? If not, what were some of the major steps and milestones and do you think you could have sped up the process somehow knowing what you know now?
Looking back to when I decided to leave my 12-year marketing and advertising career to pursue my creative passion makes me proud of where I am today. Moving to the United States was another reset point in my life. Leaving my friends and letting go of most of my belongings wasn’t easy. I’d say it started with me lowering my rates to be able to help new startups with their business during the pandemic to becoming the best photographer of 2022 Detroit took a lot of time, commitment, and passion.
When creative people start a business, we never consider the business aspect of it, the expenses to grow this business, especially for photo/video services, as my late mother used to say “you picked an expensive hobby” beginning with cameras, lighting, powerful computers, editing softwares, and so many accessories to allow you to tackle more projects.
Fortunately, with more practice and experience, I was able to overcome a slew of issues while spending less money, Networking was the key to expanding into the photography business, knowing how and where to get the best exposure for my company. I discovered at this point that digital marketing is critical for your business and brand. It tells potential customers how to find you.
Creating a word of mouth has been key to my success as a photographer over the past few years. The perks of a successful network include learning from your peers, gaining referrals and getting discounts on new gear.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
My Name is Ahmed Badr and I’m a photographer, cinematographer, father, and husband. I’ve been doing what I love for many years and hopefully for many more years to come.
What sets me apart from others is that I have mastered lighting and that is something I have been greatly recognized for.
But the truth is, I treat my clients like family and friends because I feel that I have a responsibility to make them succeed in what they do.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Being thoughtful and supportive of all my clients made the best impact and word of mouth. I have had loyal clients for more than 7 years that keep referring new clients almost every single day
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
Being an artist that is not selling a product but providing an experience is not easy, because we often go through a lot “life happens” moments and at the end of the day everyone expects you to be your best.
Art can be affected by your mood, lifestyle, and even your family. Keeping all these in balance requires a lot of determination and commitment and I believe that is something that can be difficult and challenging to accomplish.
