We were lucky to catch up with Ahmed ABDELHALIM recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ahmed, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
From my point of view, what it really takes to be successful is to not be afraid of taking any risk. When I start working in the media I took a lot of time to do several projects because simply I was afraid of failure. So I refused to do any of them before preparing myself and learning more to make it perfect. And after many years I found that I was so wrong to reject all these projects because the actual learning will come by taking the risk and keep practicing and failing and practicing again. And that is the best way to become better and successful.

Ahmed, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have worked in the media for about 22 years now and as a Promotions Producer now I am doing creative ideas for promos, Editing and writing scripts. And beside this as some of you may know that I worked as a Photographer as well doing Portrait , Street, Landscapes and Drama photography and I had my own studio in Egypt and now my dream is to rebuild my new studio in the United States.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
For me to be resilient is to look 4 or 5 steps forward like a chess game to expect what might be gonna happen and avoid the loss as much as I can. So from the beginning I was trying to improve my skills and the most important thing is to learn new skills so if I lost my job and something bad happens I can simply shift my career . So I started working as an Animator and Storyboard illustrator and then worked as an editor and after that I worked as a photographer and now I’m a Promotions Producer and Photographer.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Simply, I wish that I knew the internet as I know it today. Yes you read this right because as for my generation to learn and find any information was mostly through the books so if I want to improve any skill or learn anything new I was going to the library searching and reading. but today it’s very easy to know anything about anything and I keep saying that to my son everyday that you have to try to use the internet and learn from it as much as you can because it was very hard for me to do the same in the past.
