We were lucky to catch up with Ahmaine Canada recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ahmaine , appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I’ve always had a passion in researching. Lol i loved books, I love to expand my knowledge and intellect on history , finance , art , literature, and resources. Also , as a child in elementary school i always had a very extensive imagination, when i was bored with finishing my work early than the class , I would write stories and let my teacher at the time read them for her expertise/ constructive criticism and she loved them and always encouraged me to keep writing. I stopped because i got older and it became like a nerdy type of thing in my head lol . However, i tapped into my creative spark , dismissed my pessimistic thinking and that’s what drew back to me , my writing.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My story is almost like a movie. I witnessed my father’s death at a young age and watched my mother pull her strength to take care of four children, it’s amazing looking back now, my mother did it all alone. Working in the nursing field pulling double shifts, waking up early, walking or taking the taxi home because we had no transportation, taking us all to the sitter’s boy that’s just an introduction.
However for me, it started from me being job to job going to school graduating yet still not happy or feeling accomplished, and not knowing what I wanted to do, but I knew how to make money I was just tired of forcing myself into a job I knew wasn’t making me satisfied or happy yes the money was amazing but my life was miserable. So I quit my nursing job and was jobless, and out of transportation for a year.
And meditated and isolated me from the world, deactivated all my social media, and sat with myself for a whole year. No shopping, no hair or nail appointments, nothing just me, my life, and my thoughts, I needed my creativity to speak, I needed my spark to enhance. So I started journaling, and I’ve always had this gift but kept it locked away and boy I was amazing at this, so I created a blog “Yes I’ll Have That To Go Please” and poured my heart out and went a little deeper and spoke with my voice on my podcast “Stay With Me”.
Moving forward it was a success, I am in partnership with a hot topic success in the black entertainment industry “HollyWoodMelanin” and published amazing content with them. This was the most challenging yet beautiful experience in my entire life, and from the grace of God I was never alone, I was always provided for. It was so amazing how God granted me the opportunity to be isolated and it seemed to be so scary, so depressing, so frightening, but I’m here more blessed than ever.
Im set apart from the crowd because I’m organic , I’m one of a kind , I am a blogger, I am a writer, I am a graphic designer, I am a sister, I am a designer.
I am a daughter, and I am creative. I am most importantly known for always being expressive and outside of the box. Being an authentic, enthusiastic, humorous individual. I am most proud of never giving up. I am set apart from others because I don’t follow the crowd. I follow my heart.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
My resilience comes from my inner pain , that I shifted to strength , when i realized crying and complaining will never resolve the situation, it may numb or ease it , however it will never solve it. I get my resilience from trusting in God , he is my higher power and my strength, and nothing I do i can do without him or his assistance.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I wish i knew earlier that the resources is always available 24/7 and I have to apply myself if i really want what I’m asking for . I have an iPhone i have every resource in the palm of my hands.
