We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Afronite Stoic. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Afronite below.
Hi Afronite , thanks for joining us today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
I’ve been living off my creative skills for the past four years since completing high school. Initially, I was only interested in pursuing contemporary painting, but I quickly realized that I needed to learn illustration and design to support my fine art career.
In the beginning, it was challenging to establish a consistent and sustainable income because I didn’t know how to attract potential clients. However, things improved once I learned how to approach and offer my services to individuals and companies who needed them. I believe that learning sales is essential for every creative.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Afronite Stoic, and I’m an artist, illustrator, and designer based in Ghana, West Africa. My journey into the creative industry was fueled by a deep love for art, fashion, and the vibrant street culture that surrounds us.
How I Got Into the Industry:
My path into this industry was a natural progression from my childhood interests in drawing and painting. As I grew older, I found myself increasingly drawn to the intersection of art and street culture. This led me to experiment with various forms of visual expression, from traditional painting to digital illustration, and eventually to creating cover art for musicians and designing apparels. My love for street culture, humor, and the raw energy of urban life has been a significant influence on my work, and it continues to shape the creative direction I take.
Products/Services/Creative Works:
I specialize in creating music cover art, illustrations, and paintings that capture the essence of street culture and humor. I also design T-shirts and other apparel, working with brands to bring unique, vibrant designs to life. Beyond that, I run a thrift store called Foose Garage, where I curate and sell stylish, second-hand clothing that reflects my personal aesthetic.
What Sets Me Apart:
What sets my work apart my goal is to make more people do art without the judgement of others. When I started, I always used to get “why is your work so sketchy? why is it flat? ” and a lot more just because it is against what they think is right. I still get those comments tho lol. To me, there’s no wrong or right in art. Art is freedom.
Proud Achievements:
I’m particularly proud of how my work connects with people and how my satirical paintings brings laughter and smiles to their faces. The ability to intrigue and uplift others through my art is something I deeply value. Seeing this impact is one of the most rewarding aspects of my career. Another highlight was submitting my work for an art show, marking a significant milestone in my journey.
What I Want Potential Clients/Followers/Fans to Know:
I want my potential clients and followers to know that my work is a reflection of my passions and values. I’m dedicated to creating art that is not only visually stunning but also meaningful and impactful. Whether you’re looking for custom illustrations, unique apparel designs, or thought-provoking artwork, I’m here to bring your vision to life with creativity, professionalism, and a touch of humor. I believe in building strong relationships with my clients and followers, and I’m always open to collaboration and new creative challenges. My work is more than just a business; it’s a way of life, and I’m excited to share it with the world.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
To me, the most rewarding part of being an artist is getting paid whilst doing what you love.
