Afroja, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
Hey there!
I’m Afroja, the founder of NEOMODEST. Growing up, I was always drawn to fashion, but as a teenager, I started to feel disillusioned with the industry. I would flip through magazines and see women being objectified, their bodies used to sell products, and it made me feel like I didn’t fit in. I wanted to see women who looked like me, who were confident, and empowered.
That’s when I decided to take matters into my own hands and create a fashion brand that celebrates women, not objectifies them. NEOMODEST was born out of a desire to empower women to feel confident and beautiful, without being judged or objectified.
I started by researching the industry, understanding what women wanted, and finding designers and suppliers who shared my vision. I spent hours on social media, engaging with women, listening to their stories, and understanding their needs.
The first few months were a challenge, but I was driven by my passion to create something meaningful. I registered the business, created a website, and started building a community of like-minded women.
Fast forward to today, and NEOMODEST is a promising brand that’s all about empowering women to be their best selves. Our motto is “Empowerment through Fashion”, and we’re proud to be part of a movement that’s changing the face of fashion.
Looking back, the key steps for me were:
– Identifying a genuine need in the market
– Building a community of women who shared my vision
– Creating a brand that celebrates women, not objectifies them
– Finding reliable suppliers and partners who shared my values
If I were to give advice to anyone starting out, it’d be to stay true to your vision, be brave, and don’t be afraid to take risks. And, of course, always remember why you started in the first place.

We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.
At NEOMODEST, we don’t manufacture our products in-house, but we’ve built a network of reliable suppliers and partners who share our commitment to quality and modesty.
We source materials and products from suppliers in Turkey, Dubai, and China, working closely with them to ensure our high standards are met. We’ve partnered with a designer studio in Turkey, where our team collaborates with talented designers to create unique pieces. We also work with an artisan studio in Dubai, where skilled artisans bring our designs to life with meticulous attention to detail.
When we first started, I didn’t have manufacturing experience, but I knew what I wanted to create. I attended trade shows, researched online, and reached out to potential suppliers. It was a learning curve, but I was determined to find the right partners.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is the importance of quality control and communication. Visiting our suppliers and partners in person has been invaluable in building relationships and ensuring our standards are met.
It’s been a journey, but I’m proud of what we’ve built, and I’m excited to continue growing with our partners and customers.


Do you sell on your site, or do you use a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc?
We currently sell our products on our online stores at NEOMODEST and Hijab On Demand, which give us full control over the customer experience and allows us to build a direct relationship with our customers. We also have a presence on DressX, a digital fashion platform, where you can find our digital collection.
Recently, we started selling on our two TikTok stores, but we’ve paused our TikTok shop temporarily as we focus on refining our strategy and improving inventory management. We want to ensure we’re providing the best quality and service to our customers.
Selling on third-party platforms like Amazon, eBay, and TikTok shops has its pros and cons. On the plus side, these platforms offer massive customer bases, infrastructure, and marketing reach, which can boost visibility and sales. They’re also convenient for customers who prefer one-stop shopping.
However, there are challenges: fees can eat into margins, competition is fierce, and you have less control over branding and customer relationships. Plus, relying on these platforms means adapting to their rules and algorithms, which can be unpredictable.
As we grow, we’re looking for investors on a revenue-sharing basis, which will enable us to expand our sales channels and boost sales across all platforms. This will help us scale our business and reach more customers who love modest fashion.
By focusing on our strengths and building solid foundations, we’re confident we’ll be able to offer an even better experience for our customers and grow NEOMODEST in a sustainable way.
