Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Aeron Reinhardt. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Aeron, appreciate you joining us today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
I absolutely love working as a creative! I have had “regular” jobs in the past, and am very fortunate that I can make a living doing something I love. A lot of regular jobs require strict schedules, limited time off, and boring work. I have control over my schedule, can take time off for family and travel, and get to do something exciting that I truly enjoy. Some people like the consistency of a regular job, but I’ve always felt trapped. There is a lot of freedom that comes with working as a creative, and that freedom allows me to flourish.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a professional photographer specializing in weddings and portraits. I work mostly on-location, meaning that I come to my client. I bring my studio with me, which usually means my camera and my lighting gear (sometimes a backdrop). Whether I am indoors or out, at a place I have never been before, or a place I am familiar with, I can light up the scene to create something amazing! Colorado is a popular destination so I often work with clients coming in from out-of-state that are unfamiliar with the area. I help my clients choose locations for their photos, and set the time of the day so we get the best weather and scenery possible. When I am photographing a wedding the client will often choose the location, and I bring what I need to make stunning photos wherever they are. A big concern that many people have is that they don’t know how to pose for photos, or they are nervous about being photographed. I direct my clients where to stand and where to put their hands, so they can relax and know that they look their best. I like to keep a fun up-beat feel to my photos sessions. This brings out the best expressions, and lets everyone have a good time.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I can not say enough about PPA! Professional Photographers of America is an amazing organization that really helped me to grow as a photographer. It is an amazing network of photographers helping each other and growing together. Early in my journey as a photographer it seemed like there was so much competition, and an idea that photographers can’t be friends with other photographers. I have made so many great friends through PPA. Those who have been around for awhile are eager to share and teach those who are just getting started and learning their way around the industry. It is a great support system, and a great place to grow. I have many photographer friends now, and we are not each other’s competition. We each have our unique offerings and styles. And it’s great to be able to send a client to a photographer I know and trust if I am already booked for a particular date.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I get to create something amazing for my clients! I get to tell their story, about how they are here and now. I get to capture all of the love and emotion on a couple’s wedding day. Photos they will look back on years down the line and be reminded of their early years together. Photos they will share with their families and friends of all the happiness they have together. Family photos are so important, too! Being able to look at the wall portrait in the living room and see the smiling faces of the people you love. Walking down the hallway to see pictures of the kids as they’ve grown. And adding new pictures as the family grows. I am honored that my clients choose me to capture these wonderful memories for them.
