Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Aerial Ambitions. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Aerial, thanks for joining us today. What’s the best or worst investment you’ve made (either in terms of time or money)? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
When the pandemic hit the Greenville, SC, aerial community, the longest running facility closed down and multiple teachers either retired or moved. Both Khris and Amanda missed the physical and creative outlet that aerial silks provided. They researched teacher training and found Paperdoll Militia Virtual Teacher Training. A new facility had opened with the perfect set up for aerial silks, Motive School of Movement. Khris and Amanda both invested over 100 hours in the teacher training, and did the work to open a business (LLC, insurance, website, social media, etc.) While they are still working to make Aerial Ambitions a profitable business, the return in the growth, joy, and sharing their passion with their students is immeasurable.
Aerial, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Khris Kirk has 6 years and Amanda has 10 years of experience with aerial arts. They formed their business Aerial Ambitions in August 2021. They offer all levels of instruction in Aerial Silks, focusing on safety, proper form, and creative movement for adults and children. The classes are every Sunday at 10am & 11am. They are very excited for their first student showcase October 2nd. They love sharing their passion and watching their students grow in confidence and aerial skills. They can’t wait for their students to show all they have learned,
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
People generally have 2 reactions to the aerial arts. They watch and believe they could never do anything like that, or they think they can come in and do everything immediately. Neither is true. We have step by step instructions to help almost anyone get in to the air and be successful. Additionally, before you can start doing drops and tricks, you need to spend time learning the fundamentals, working on strength and flexibility to make sure you are keeping yourself safe in the air.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Khris and Amanda received a ton of instruction from Paperdoll Militia during their training, but realized after several months that they need continuing education to make sure they continued to progress and provide the best content for their students. They then researched and found multiple opportunities to cross train and use online resources to progress. They take classes with MAlice in Flight Studio, LLC, Maya Movement Arts, Motive School or Movement, Sanctuary of Pole, Skyward Aerial Arts, Fit and Bendy, Bloom Movement Artistry and Womack and Bowman Silks Stars to continue to grow and improve for their students and themselves.
