We recently connected with Adylia-Rhenee Gutierrez and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Adylia-Rhenee thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Almost every entrepreneur we know has considered donating a portion of their sales to an organization or cause – how did you make the decision of whether to donate? We’d love to hear the backstory if you’re open to sharing the details.
Yes, we donate 10% of all YhorlifeEssentials orders to St. Jude. In Q2 of 2024 we will also allocate to Dress for Success.
St. Jude I’ve been a supporter for years. I believe that children and the families that are going through this need as much help as possible. It’s just an amazing cause.
Dress for Success I love the ethos and the initiative. As a woman I know the struggles just to feel confident going into a new career or area. It’s wonderful there are so many mentors and resources available not just to feel confident how they dress but mentally strong as well.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi! I’m Adylia-Rhenee Gutierrez and I’m the founder of Modern Lifestyle Brand- Yhorlife.
Yhorlife solves the problem of health equity to all. I wanted to bridge the gap and the mindset that in order to live yhor best and feel good or strive for something higher you need exponentially a lot of money. No, you can make small strides to yhor goal and we show you how. Through our Build Yhorlife membership where there are videos from cooking, meditation, shopping etc.
Through the interviews we conduct and the accessible skincare we create under YhorlifeEssentials.
I’m so proud of the YhorlifeEssentials and the range we now have. Our serum which has niacinamide, marine collagen etc all the great things is under $50 as compared to our competitors and that makes me happy. As a consumer I hated spending $85 for a serum that maybe lasted a few weeks because I use it day/night.
I’m also super proud of our new BuildYhorlife membership program. It’s different than before because it gives control back to the person. We want to guide not hinder you to be the best you can be. Only you know yourself so the membership helps you be the coach and be guided.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
So, I was fortunate that I had some money saved up. So the first website I used the money I had to create the first site and get the email etc.
Then I worked and saved so that money could go into my business and updating. Instead of having a “savings” my “savings” was my business.
How’d you think through whether to sell directly on your own site or through a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc.
No, we only sell are items on our website (www.yhorlife.co).
The reason for that is because I want brand recognition.
The pros of selling on Amazon or Etsy is that yes you get quick sales and movement. The con for me is that consumers associate your brand as really “Etsy” or “Amazon”. The best example is when SVB went under and the small businesses on Etsy had to wait to get payment and were concerned. They have websites apart from Etsy but consumers only found them on Etsy.
It’s such a personal choice. I just feel like I’d rather take my time to build the brand and evolve and the security of people knowing when they are purchasing from our site it’s us.
