We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Adrion Bradley . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Adrion below.
Hi Adrion, thanks for joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
So when I got pregnant with my first son back in 2012/2013 I left Louisiana from living with my grandmam in college to live back with my mother. We started a cake business/decorating service. It was fun money was okay. Had my son & I just fell out of love with it. Soon moved back to live with my grandmam a couple years later & eventually I ended up moving to Houston and my life changed completely. Met a guy had another kid things didn’t work out. Life happened so fast. I was at job after job after job and one day out of nowhere I just picked cakes back up. I would post them time from time on my Instagram but nothing major. One day my friend Morgan Neal told me “Girl you should just start a business page & take this serious”. Didn’t think too much about it. June 6th, 2019 my grandmam passed away. I got the news actually when I was working on about 3 cake orders. It was then when I knew this is what I’m suppose to be doing with my life. During my storm and depression season my skills and talent level just escalated and took off. I named my business after my grandmam “Georgia”. She use to call me everyday asking “Did you go to work today Gal?” and of course I would say yes knowing I haven’t had a job in weeks, months maybe. So now I work as her. Every cake is beautifully made just as she was. Everyday no matter the time no matter the day. I can hear her after completion “Job well done Gal.” Now we’re here “Georgia’s Gal Cakes.”

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Adrion Bradley 27 year old, Baker/Self Taught Cake Decorator. I specialize in all types of celebrations cakes: weddings, birthdays, baby showers, etc. Also I have created “cake cookies” for my not so much cake fans. I ask my customers what they would like as far as the cake and I see the vision turn it into my own and execute to the best of my ability. End results are “I love it.” Now not everyone is a fan of my work but I’ve learned in business you can’t please them all. Leaning that has made me very proud of myself. Also proud that I continue down my path without fear of rejection or giving up no matter what life throws at me or any obstacles I may encounter.

We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
Turning my “side hustle” into my actually main job wasn’t as hard as I thought. As stated prior I was going from job to job working retail to keep a steady flow of income. As a full time parent of 2 and trying to juggle school I had to do something. The past relationship I was in took a toll on me I lost job after job or eventually quit due to my lack of self confidence and manipulation of my ex partner. But I soon over came all of that. My phase of depression turned into one of the biggest healing journeys ever and made me into the boss I am today. And I couldn’t be any happier with the decisions I have made.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One major lesson I had to learn was setting boundaries. I would say “closed on Sunday” and still work. Use email or DM to order and would still receive text orders. No calls and would still answer the phone. It’s still hard til this day especially with friends and family who don’t abide by my rules but in due time everyone will learn to differentiate “friends” and “business” and start treating mine accordingly just like every other business they support.
