We recently connected with Adrine Davtyan and have shared our conversation below.
Adrine, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
As an adult who understood the importance of mental health, I pursued my education in psychology not knowing where I would end up. Through my various internships and jobs, I realized, I’m always landed in a position where I’m helping someone make sense of their story and then provide them with the tools to embrace the past to then overcome the future.
The obstacles that have come my way as an adult is as simple as, me questioning myself as a healer. I never thought in a million years, I would become a mental health therapist. All I wanted was to have a job in a respected field that would make my family proud. I did this most of my 20s, working as a medical social worker, thinking this is it for me. After several years of being in this position, I felt stagnant, I felt there was something bigger for me and I was just getting in my own way. I took a major leap and decided to learn my comfortable job to pursue private practice therapy. It was the best decision I ever made.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
When I think of my journey and where I am at today as a licensed psychotherapist, I think of myself as a little girl and how I was always drawn to people and connection. As I reflect on my story, I see how important these connections were to me, building relationships with people is all I always wanted. Feeling lost at times, not knowing where I fit in or where I belonged became something I had to overcome. Through my many obstacles of life challenges and rewards, I learned the importance of self-reflection and self-understanding as this became the key to my own connection, which then projected to connections with others.

I am the founder of Serenity Therapy, a private practice that offers online and in-person psychotherapy services. I specialize and empower individuals and couples who struggle with unhealthy relationship patterns, childhood trauma, PTSD, and self-confidence issues. As a Certified EMDR Therapist, I value and feel most passionate in addressing painful life experiences, no matter how big or small the traumatic experiences may seem.I work with adults, teens and couples who are seeking understanding, guidance and growth in their lives.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The lesson I have learned throughout the years is, being hard on myself is not the cause of my success, because even though being hard on myself is part of the reason I am where I am, I don’t think I have ever stopped and appreciated my success until I changed that mindset. When I learned to appreciate my success, I realized, it actually helped me work harder while being super proud of myself.
To truly feel successful, one must actually emerse themselves in the joy of their accomplishment, otherwise, nothing will ever feel enough. I have learned to use compassion as a form of motivation and it works much better for me.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
What I feel is most helpful when it comes to succeeding in my field is being open to hear other therapists and be open to guidance. We are a community made to help others, so why not be open to receiving help and giving help to our community of therapists. There is opportunity to learn about potential trainings that can enhance your skills, opportunity to learn about networking events, and opportunity to learn about the business side of our work.
