We recently connected with Adrienne Smith and have shared our conversation below.
Adrienne, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Taking care of customers isn’t just good business – it is often one of the main reasons folks went into business in the first place. So, we’d love to get a conversation going around how to best help clients feel appreciated – maybe you can share something you’ve done or seen someone do that’s been really effective at helping a customer feel valued?
Customer appreciation is honestly my number one focus at Destination Gleaux. I am always giving tokens of appreciation throughout the year including free product and service giveaways. Each year between Christmas and the New Year I have a holiday raffle. The winner receives free facial services for the entire upcoming year. One of my favorite memories is gifting two top clients $500 at Christmas. I’ve also helped clients during financial hardship to show how much I value them. At the end of the day, I want my clients to know they’re family.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Greetings to all! I am Adrienne Smith, BSN, RN, LE, the CEO of Destination Gleaux, Baton Rouge’s #1 corrective skin care treatment center for skin of color.
I’ve been a Registered Nurse for 12 years and a Licensed Esthetician for 4. My work at Destination Gleaux is centered around corrective treatments for clients who are suffering with challenging cases of acne, hyperpigmentation, eczema and rosacea. I am extremely passionate about helping others enhance their natural skin and building their confidence while doing so.
In December 2020, I added Amazon Best Selling Author to my list of accolades for my work in Cosmo Chronicles. Most recently, I’ve also been named a 2022 cohort of Ernst & Young’s Top Emerging Black & Latino Business Leaders.
I am most proud of being a leader of innovation in my industry in my hometown of Baton Rouge. I have been the first to bring many new services to the city including DNA Skin Analysis and specific treatments/devices that will aid skin of color.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Be the boss that you’ve always wanted is my motto when it comes to managing my team. Always lead with respect and integrity. It is important to make my team members feel valued and that the business thrives because of their talents and input. I invest in their careers through providing continuing education. I also show them I care about them as people and not just employees. I’ve taken my employees to dinner, given them unexpected bonuses/just because gifts and most importantly given them a voice to express their needs and concerns without feeling like there will be unfavorable consequences.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Social media and referrals are hands down our best source of new clients. 80% of our clientele has found us through Instagram or Facebook. Our talent and customer service is exceptional if I must say so myself. Once our customers come through the doors, they’re always referring multiple new people to us. We’ve been very grateful for how our clients advertise for us.
