Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Adrianne SKYY2Ys Gates. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Adrianne SKYY2Ys, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I published a journal book for black women to rediscover themselves and live an abundant and happy life. It’s called Cocoa Canvas. This is one step on the mission of creating community and highlighting the importance of our personal quest.

Adrianne SKYY2Ys, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Skyy’s early life was marked by an inner conflict, a struggle to reconcile her experiences with the beliefs of her family. From a young age, she turned to poetry and journaling as her sanctuary, channels through which she could voice her innermost thoughts and emotions. These early expressions became the bedrock of her resilience as she navigated through the storms of addiction, the depths of misery, and the sorrow of loss. Skyy’s journey is one of profound transformation, her empathy honed by her own battles, enabling her to offer solace and hope to those she encounters.
Skyy’s professional odyssey is as diverse as it is inspiring. Having served in the military, toured Italy, and pursued a degree from Phoenix University, she ventured into the music industry before embracing her true calling in lifestyle coaching and music. Her first published writing is Cocoa Canvas, available on he4r website and amazon.com, has been said to “realign and ignite” the reader as it is a journal designed to result in a book about the reader. Recognized by Channel 11 News, Skyy’s contributions have left an indelible mark on her community, where she is celebrated as a beacon of strength and insight.
Skyy’s conscious and soulful music creations have touch many parts of the globe that reflect back a common response: I needed this. She makes music for the healing and movement of the soul. Skyy’s work can be found on all steaming platforms under her artist name Skyy2ys.
Through her writing, music and community engagement, Skyy aspires to uplift and empower, particularly Black women, encouraging them to embrace their identity and live with purpose. What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The goal is IMPACT simply. I enjoy the attention and recognition but what satisfies my soul is the positive impact my book, my music and my presence continues to have on those that I encounter. I decided to publish this book to expand the reach of my impact beyond one on ones. In hindsight, my music has always been audible medicine as my works have always been near and true to my journey. I want Cocoa Canvas to be apart of millions of black women’s healing journey as it provides a safe place to be authentic, has thoughtful prompts to trigger deep thinking and it rewards the reader/writer with a piece of intellectual property that they can turn into passive income.
My whole life has been centered around helping other people. As it stands, I put myself in the way of helping more people by helping myself to heal, and grow and evolve with love.
I love hearing reviews about how my music has helped bring people out of depression and darkness. Especially my latest single “Self-Love” prod by RaphaelRJ2.
I am grateful that my mission and my passion can be expressed through these creative outlets.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
There is a subtle blessing wrapped up in the willingness to shift and pivot in life to the beat of your own heart and desires. Once I got straight with who I truly am at the core, I was then able to share my story and journey through different forms of art such as music and writing. One of my biggest fears was being seen. I’d hide behind my accomplishments and merits, chasing degrees and formal recognition in everything that I pursued. Being a creative at heart challenged me to turn away from socially normalized ways of living and being. This shift encouraged me to study my own life exclusively and intentionally overcame obstacles that stood between myself and the goals I sought after. When I succeed now, the joy for me lies in the journey of overcoming in order to recognize success. Overcoming overthinking, outdated belief systems, fear of being seen. All things that I don’t believe I would have noticed needed tending to in a normal working environment. Music and writing helped me discover hidden beauty buried deep inside of my existence that I now can share with the world in my own ways with hopes of inspiring a young black girl to be bold, confident and sure when she inserts herself into the world.
