We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Adriana Larue a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Adriana thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
Yes I been highly blessed to be able to fully live of my creative work. It definitely was not an easy road , having to start from zero coming into a scene that was already established I had to work my way up. Doing endless free shows where I would sometimes make 1-5 dollars in a night , doing local competitions on a weekly basis on top of that I had a full time job but it did not stop me from achieving my goal ! Nothing stood in my way I wanted my art to be seen and be appreciated! I managed to get where I am today by working hard , with integrity and a good heart !
Knowing what I know now would I change anything ? Absolutely not everything I experience helped build Adriana Larue into who she is now !
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Adriana Larue I am a local Transgender Drag Performer! One of Houston’s most prominent drag entertainer! I came in to the night life as anyone does , went to a club with friends and saw all these drag performers and instantly fell in love !
When you book Adriana Larue trust and believe you are in for a show ! Always high energy , do i solve any problems while in my drag persona of course I bring the fun I’m a walking party !!
What sets me apart from other performers? I would say my unique style of performance and show stopping splits ! As a plus size performer people sometimes underestimate us and boom surprise a split !
One of the things I am most proud of so far in my career was help raise 35,000 dollars for Trans kids in Texas with an amazing organization TENT TRANSGENDER EDUCATION NETWORK of TEXAS ! Also adding to that I was nominated for this specific accomplishment by The Who’s Who In America 2022
Not only am I a performer but an advocate a loud voice for trans women in my scene !
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
By supporting small businesses, purchasing local. Share your friends business and pay what their work is worth , don’t ask for a discount your friends have worked hard for their art ! The more we uplift creative artist the more colorful this world can be !
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Yes , I wish I had the resources transgender individuals have now ! Safe spaces for people who were just trying to figure out their identities. I definitely feel had I had those resources I would have been much more creative with self expression not only internally but externally.
