Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Adriana Esparza. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Adriana, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
Once I had a general idea of the style of earrings I wanted to create I jumped right into it. I started with very basic materials that I could purchase at any craft store. I made two different styles. Once I felt confident with my results, I moved on to better quality materials. I researched literally every thing, tools, wire, types of stretchy fabrics. I watched countless videos about fabrics & how to know if it’s a two way or four way stretch… things I never thought I needed to know! Lycra & Spandex seem to be what works best.
That’s how I got the idea to use swimsuits for the earrings. The material is water friendly making the earrings waterproof! I fell in love with all the fun patterns that swimsuits have to offer. The uglier the swimsuit the prettier the earrings ha! After about a year of crafting my earrings, I made several changes. Looking back at my first pair, well let’s just say I’ve come a long way! I even tell my clients if you have an old pair PLEASE let me replace them! Everyone has to start somewhere.
Adriana, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Adriana Esparza and I love earrings! I enjoy problem solving so when I started on this venture I was really excited because I was going to have to figure out how to execute my ideas. It was crazy for me to think that I even had time for such things. I have a full time job, full time mom & wife! When you are passionate about something, I guess you just find a way. That’s exactly what I did & do. I absolutely love putting on my podcasts or music as I fabricate my earrings. I especially love when I get custom orders for sports teams, bachelorette/bridesmaids gifts & vacations. My beautiful mother Consuelo helps me cut all of the fabric. I love that she gets as excited as me when we come up with a new collection. She’s always the first to see. My wonderful husband promotes me & helps me with pop up markets, photo shoots anything I need. He’s my biggest motivator when I get in a rut. They both supported my crazy idea of making water proof earrings out of swimsuits! I feel like my earrings are a unique style that you don’t find just anywhere.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Honestly I’d have to say word of mouth. I do sell on e-commerce platforms but really most of my sales are at either pop up markets & events or referrals.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I feel like this is a constant, keeping yourself relevant on social media platforms. It can be overwhelming, it’s also a full time job. Im continually posting pictures of my work, works in progress & of happy customers. So what if your friends get tired of it. You never know when you will catch someone’s eye. There’s a whole world of potential customers out there!
