We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Adriana Catano a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Adriana thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
After being in show business for over 25 years and trying all type of skin care brands from the luxury brands, Doctor owned skin care brands and even drug store brands I became frustrated that none of them really delivered the results they promised. I took matters into my own hands and started researching and learning all about skin care.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
After being in show business as an actress, tv host, voice over talent, producer I wanted a business of my own where I could work for myself and not count on executive producers or network executives to book me for jobs. Show business can be quite unstable. Coincidentally at the same time, I had started researching and learning all about skincare. I became frustrated with all the skincare brands I tried because they never delivered the results they promised. It was very important for me to create a skincare brand free of the toxins that most skin care brands contain. It was also a must to create a cruelty free and vegan skincare line because there is absolutely no need to harm innocent animals in labs. Being a vegan myself, the line had to be a vegan one. I am most proud of the fact that our products are gluten free, paraben free, glycolic acid free, hydroquinone free and plant based. Our products deliver results immediately without harsh chemicals and they are perfect for women any age and all skin types.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
When we first launched CATANO BEAUTY the sales didn’t begin for about one year and it was a little discouraging. Especially after investing in public relations, advertising, photography etc. Luckily our products deliver results and slowly but surely word of mouth became our best advertising tool. In addition, our influencer marketing strategy really took off in 2019 and many top beauty influencers fell in love with our skincare line and began recommending it to their followers on their social media platforms.
Do you sell on your site, or do you use a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc?
We began selling our products on my website www.adrianacatano.com/shop in 2018 and with the pandemic our sales grew by 70% so we decided to focus on our ECommerce more than trying to get into stores. We also have a shopify site www.adrianacatanoshop.com where people can shop our entire line. Luckily 85% of our clients re-order once they finish the products. We take our customer service very seriously and we offer excellent service. We always respond within 24 hours and that makes a big difference in our business. For the moment, we are very happy selling on line and will continue to do so.
