We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Adriana Castro. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Adriana below.
Adriana, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
Absolutely. Unlike traditional companies that fear empowering clients, at Dbuiltek, we contribute to the construction & design industry from a decentralized perspective by developing services and tools that give clients control over the process and results of their projects. This approach aligns with our vision to help people to enhance their lives by improving their spaces.[1] [2]
We live our vision by constantly offering out-of-the-box services and tools. For example, early this year we launched an online platform, Canvas City, which gives owners and team collaborators access to project information from their phones, interactive 3D rendering, real space scanning, walkthroughs, videos, and more traditional information such as photos, plans, and specifications that help customers imagine and then build their spaces in reality.
Another tool Dbuiltek offers is our virtual-reality app. The app gives our clients a see-walk experience of their future spaces, home, or business before they start building them. To download our app, look for your property in the menu and simply walk into the space with a VR cardboard.
The inspiration for this platform and app stems from our desire to provide property owners with a virtual twin of their property that includes all the information about the original plus future possibilities for improvement. For more detailed information about the app and platform, go to

Ultimately, every new tool, app, or service we’ve created in the last four years aims to provide an alternative to traditional design-build methods. Our goal is to keep creating more ways to make them better.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Dbuiltek started in 2017 to provide home and business owners with all the tools and services they need to improve their spaces in one place. We use an innovative approach incorporating applications and an online platform to support users.
Over time, we assembled a company that supports clients from concept design to construction. However, traditional processes and tools weren’t enough to solve some significant problems. That’s when our team of creators started to develop tech applications to facilitate parts of the process and support users through their journey. Step by step, we put together the team, platform, and apps to show our current customers a different way of doing business.
Dbuiltek’s customer journey starts with a virtual design service package followed by a guided transformation of the customer’s ideas into permit plans and costs. These are ultimately finalized through the supervised construction of the space. Everything is always co-managed through our online platform and tech tools.
This translates into a very different experience from the traditional one. It’s more accessible, more personalized, and more profitable. It is a co-creation journey from idea to execution. With our help and tools, anyone can make their renovation or business ideas a reality and ensure that the result always lives up to their expectations.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Dbuiltek is the creative result of a design-builder mindset and the futuristic vision of an innovator. In 2018, Adriana, an architect with construction management experience, and Ruben, a computer engineer with software development knowledge and an innovative vision, created a design-build firm focused on facilitating the execution of design-and-build projects by using technology to improve the process.
From 2018 to 2019, our design-build team found a growing market in single-family homeowners looking for HGTV-like renovations and willing to hire a one-stop shop. Initially, our team took on as many customers as they physically could to provide high-quality turnkey services. But it wasn’t enough! We soon realized we couldn’t maintain the quality of our service using our traditional operations model and a small team. By being in several places at once, the cost of our operations increased and affected the end price, finally making our service inaccessible to our targeted customers. To make things worse, while struggling to be in more than one place at a time and working on alternatives, the Covid-19 pandemic started. We went from having 20 projects in the pipeline to five, mainly because we couldn’t meet in person with our customers. We realized that most of our success in acquiring new customers was because we helped them see their space before it was built using elaborate software, expensive hardware, and face-to-face meetings. So, we began to wonder how we could replicate that experience remotely.
As entrepreneurs, we were facing a fork in the road. We could either pivot to another line of business or evolve and create new ways to provide design-build services by adapting our skills to the new reality. Our team brainstormed alternatives to address the remote visualization problem for some time. After finding a solution, we invested in resources and a team to develop the first version of an online platform that would allow us to share our projects and 3D ideas without needing complicated software or hardware to facilitate the visualization remotely.
Today, the platform and other products are being used by our visionary clients, who, like us, see their potential. This story marked the beginning of our transformation and current vision. Since then, we have improved our main platform (Canvas City) and created different VR/AR apps using technology that enables our clients to visualize their projects before they get built. A virtual reality setting makes it easier to align partners and vendors with building our customers’ ideas collaboratively.
Our vision is to reach and help as many customers as we can by creating and improving tools and services that allow all creative people to transform their building ideas and dreams into realities.
Does your business have multiple or supplementary revenue streams (like a ATM machine at a barbershop, etc)?
We have three lines of business and two tech products related to the industry. All of them are focused on helping customers transform their ideas into spaces.
We organize our business offerings based on the phase the customer is in. For beginners or people that want to do a renovation but don’t know where to start, we offer a Virtual Interior design concept package focused on the creative phase to help users define their ideas based on possibilities. Then, for the people that already know what they want but need the structure to make it real, we offer services to create construction plans for permits & estimating to help them plan for the construction phase. And finally, for the people ready to build, we offer a construction management service that puts a team together and helps them manage the construction process to achieve the expected results.
On the tech side, we recently launched two applications, a VR (or virtual reality) app and an AR (or augmented reality) app. The first one, Canvas City, focuses on helping customers see their space in virtual reality before it gets built to minimize many misunderstandings that can arise between designers’, clients’, and contractors’ interpretations of 2D plans. The second app allows the customer to see pieces of furniture rendered to scale and projected into real space to help them get a more realistic feeling of what the furniture they buy will look like in their future home.
These tools are meant to empower the user to make consent decisions and allow designers, architects, and contractors to communicate better and provide customers with exactly what they’re expecting.
