We were lucky to catch up with Adrian Wooten recently and have shared our conversation below.
Adrian, appreciate you joining us today. It’s easy to look at a business or industry as an outsider and assume it’s super profitable – but we’ve seen over and over again in our conversation with folks that most industries have factors that make profitability a challenge. What’s biggest challenge to profitability in your industry?
The challenges in the food truck/ Catering industry would be getting people to understand that you price is your price the cost of food and the cost of supplies are rising higher and higher so we are forced to raise our prices, and services just to see a profit and or break even. In order to get help from different organizations for business you need a lot of outrageous things in order to just get a loan stipulation is so high, till you almost just want to shut down. But I am not a quitter God have me this vision and I knew that he gives provision.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hello my name is Adrian Wooten I am the proud owner of Wootens Just Like That Bbq Soulfood and Catering where my husband Denny Wooten works by my side. I have 4 beautiful children and I am a Licensed Minister /Minister of Womens Ministry. I started cooking at a young age , taught by sitting and watching my Grandmother/ mother in the kitchen . The passion I have for food is what drives me day for day. I tell people all the time work your passion and what fuels you. When I got started out in the beginning I was working 3 jobs and selling food lunches on the weekend to stores and beauty shops/ barbershops, I always had this dream of owing a foodtruck. I always loved to cook and love to see people happy and eating. When I started my food truck started when we were in complete bind In finances we’re to the window to the wall, we didn’t know what to do. I prayed and and stood on faith ,see in any business you have have faith without it you will fail. God spoke to me and said use what I had , I told my husband and the monies we had I took and got outta DBA , bought some meat and ingredients for sides and desserts and here we are 9 yrs later because of my faith walk Wootens Bbq Soulfood and Catering is here if I had not of listened to the Holy Spirit we wouldn’t have made it this far when God give you vision he gives you provision, and put him first in your business and he will open doors that no man can shut.
Soulfood /barbecue it does something to your soul when you eat it, it’s like being in the backyard at a family reunion or gathering good food bring people together and that’s what I love. In the food business you have to be consistent. The products we offer outside of the food are cakes, pies, Teacakes and our signature drink Called ( That that Tea)
We offer in our Business Catering services for not only Bbq, Soulfood, etc. We offer catering for festivals, all party’s . My clients love the fact that I cook for them and their families and they don’t have to do it themselves. What sets me apart in business is I allow God to be my CEO and when he say’s move I move . God will ever steer me wrong. When you are in business I feel that others in business should help push the next person , but we have so many that won’t it leave the other person struggling to get ahead . We are to help one another to get ahead instead of setting them as a threat. That’s what sets me a apart I am proud of where I can from and where were going. With God your opportunity is limitless. You can find Wootens on Fb, Instagram and Tick Tock.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I’m the beginning of my journey I had so many obstacles hat kept coming up against me but I had to learn that giving up was not an option. Whenever you are being tested is right where God is gonna bless you. Finances became less to none, credit was all over the place but my FAITH stood above all that. I have cried and wanted to throw in the fowl because I didn’t know where the money was coming from to do certain things in the business but someone the doors were being open and God was making ways that no mam could. So stand on your faith trust God put your business in his hands and lean to his understanding and what God move .

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I just started posting pics of my food every time I would cook just to see what people may say. When I started my business I realized that we as people are visual creatures and my main focus was to allow them to see what I had to offer. I started posting pics and making it look like they could taste it through the screen and I just keep posting so that every time they would look they would see me. Persistence and consistency is key in any business.
