Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Adrian Tabb. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Adrian thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So, let’s imagine that you were advising someone who wanted to start something similar to you and they asked you what you would do differently in the startup-process knowing what you know now. How would you respond?
If I were starting over in the beauty industry, I’d take more time to properly assess my strengths and what people value about my work so I would make more money more quickly and cut out the wasting of time to try to jump on every bandwagon. I’d definitely have a better plan of marketing and branding.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Adrian Tabb and Im 37 years old. I’m from Holly Grove, Arkansas. I have been in the beauty industry professionally for over 16 years as a cosmetologist and an instructor. I’m licensed in the states of Arkansas, Georgia, and Texas
Styling and teaching hair is what I love doing! Outside of being an Interim Pastor, I work in my salon full time.
I got serious about the industry after leaving a full scholarship at an HBCU to pursue this dream. I was noticed and given several opportunities to work as a platform artist, educator, and product developer for companies. I realized later that there was a demand on extension training and I dove right in. I began teaching classes on my own and the rest has been history!
I have DVDs to further teach techniques and I also have a line of styling products.
I’m the salon I offer all hair care services, especially cutting and styling and all extension services. What sets me apart is my honesty with the clients about services and the options I give them to achieve the best outcome.
I’m most proud of my ability to have integrity in this business and to have the opportunity to help clients who struggle with hair loss and other hair related issues. I strive to offer excellent service in a calm yet welcoming atmosphere.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I’ve built a fan base on social media, mainly Facebook, but posting my work and doing live videos. I invite people into what I do and give them a chance to share and talk with me as I work. I remain real and reachable as I share my knowledge and that helps people connect with and trust you. I advise you to keep your pages professional while adding a bit of your personality. Clients need to see your humanity and not just the fact that you are a business owner. Don’t give too much! Just show that you are just as real and family oriented as they are. Pace yourself as well, but don’t lose traction with work by not being consistent.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I keep in touch with clients via Facebook and via text and phone call. I may make a post or seems individual messages to inform clients of specials, my vacations, appointment availability, and more. Keeping in contact with them let’s them know you care and you are thinking about their needs as well. They continue to schedule with you when they feel valued.
