Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Adrian Montoya. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Adrian, appreciate you joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Austin, TX is known for its entrepreneurial culture, diverse economy, and most importantly pickleball. Living in Austin, TX as a young professional after college I noticed this very quickly and loved everything about it.
When coming up with the idea of ESPC, we wanted to build a concept that embodied all of this under one roof. A facility that would bring a vibrant community together where you could play pickleball, socialize, and make long lasting connections.
I felt this concept would work as there was nothing else like it. There are other similar models like it SoHo house and Kollective, all amazing business’s, but none that revolved around the game of pickleball. And with the game growing daily in Austin, the lack of indoor courts, and the longing for community and socializing (especially after Covid) I knew if we built the branding and the concept right, that we would have something special.
Imagining the micro community we could build, the brands and individuals that we would connect with made me more excited than ever to see it come to fruition.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My career started in logistics & tech. After graduating college I joined a startup company originally founded out of Silicon Valley. Being 23 years old at the time and surrounded by such talented an innovative professionals I learned very fast that you wear different hats in any business starting out and one of the greatest muscles you can build is urgency and consistency. My main role was and has always remained in establishing relationships with clients and providing a solution to a need.
I pride myself on solving problems for customers with innovation, dedication, and attention to detail in everything do. I believe what sets me apart is my unwavering commitment to understanding the different needs and challenges of each customer and delivering a tailored solution that exceeds their expectations. My approach has always been rooted in building strong relationships built on trust, transparency, and mutual respect. I feel that relationships are everything and if you can provide a solution to a customers pain point and help them achieve their goals, while at the same time establishing a relationship with them, thats what its all about.
I’ve done that now for 3 logistics startups helping all scale substantially in a short amount of years, and its what I now mirror at Eastside Paddle Club.
What makes me most proud is the positive impact I’v had on my customers and members. Whether it’s helping them increase efficiency in their life or career, helping members make new connections in their life, helping customers reach new markets, or giving members a place of belonging and community, knowing that I’ve played a part in their success and feel of belonging is incredibly fulfilling.
I want potential clients, followers, and members to know that I’m deeply passionate about fostering connections and creating meaningful relationships and experiences. I pour my heart out into every aspect of my business’s, and as a christian I feel that I am working and serving God when I work heartily and invest my time in others success. My brand is built on integrity, expertise, and a relentless drive to deliver results and I will go above and beyond to help my company, customers, and partners succeed.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
A story of resilience I look back on often that makes me smile now, is when I launched my 1st company at the height of covid in October 2020. I left my 6 figure salary job and went all in on co-founding my own logistics company. One month into launching the company, at the start of November my fiance and I find out that we are expecting a baby. Being that it was a startup, I was starting from scratch, building up a clientele and was not making anywhere near the income I was making previously which caused a lot of anxious nights praying that I made the right decision in launching my own company. The next month in December, the day after Christmas, my father passes away. I felt like the walls were collapsing in on me and my back was against the wall with life closing in on me. There were only two options for me; I could fold or I could go to war and fight. I knew that I now had this responsibility in being a soon to be father, the man of the family being there for my mother and younger sister, and I had a duty I owed to my partners in helping our company succeed. So I decided I was going to rise above the circumstances, no matter how difficult and in that first year we grew our company from $0 to $30 million in revenue, and grew from 4 of us founders, to 30 employees.
From CEOs to small business owners, to the teams they manage and inspire, everyone can benefit from developing their resilience.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
What has helped me build my reputation in my market is by being a consultant to my partners than just your normal business transactional partnership.
My commitment to delivering high quality work consistently has been instrumental. Providing information to my customers that informs them of their own markets and making their job easier, offering innovative solutions, delivering exceptional service, and prioritizing excellence in everything I do.
Secondly, building strong relationships with clients, colleagues, and industry peers has been crucial. By actively listening to their needs, providing valuable insights, and building trust and transparency, I’ve been able to establish myself as a reliable and trusted partner. One thing I believe is to never sacrifice reputation in the name of business. You can always start another company. You can never create a new reputation.
Furthermore, staying proactive and adaptable in an ever-changing market landscape has been substantial. By continuously learning, embracing new technologies, and anticipating market trends, I’ve been able to stay ahead of the curve.
