Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Adrian Johnson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Adrian, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Was there an experience or lesson you learned at a previous job that’s benefited your career afterwards?
The most important lesson I learned as a customer service manager, is to listen to your customer. In customer service, you try to meet your customer’s needs and pay attention to details to form strong and trusting relationships. This is one of the most important elements I learned, and have been able to bring to my real estate career. From repeat clients and referrals, I have been able to build lasting relationships by listening and learning my client’s goals. There is no perfect home but you can get pretty close to finding one, when you truly listen to your clients’ needs, and are able to help them visualize what could be.

Adrian, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
When purchasing my first home in 2004, I was diligent in wanting to know all the details of the process and educating myself on what steps were next. After the purchase, I was still intrigued by the industry and pursued getting licensed to be a real estate agent. My work ethic, and attention to detail, have really come in handy during the last two decades of this career. Every home I go into, I treat it like it is my own so I question everything I see and make sure my clients understand every piece of information they are given. If a client has a question, and I don’t have the answer, I get to work finding it for them.

How’d you meet your business partner?
I’ve known my Broker, Jodi, since we were in junior high. While we kept in touch, life took us down different paths before leading us both to real estate. We started our real estate careers around the same time 20 years ago; she started in California and I was in Texas. Once she returned to the Katy area, she had a client that decided my listing was the perfect place to call home. After that smooth transaction, we did a number of addional closings together. We soon realized that we enjoyed working together, and that we had a similar outlook and goals professionally. From there we formed a team, and later when Jodi had the idea of opening up her own brokerage, I was overly proud of her and happy to join her on her journey. Years later, I am happy to report, we still work well together and are a very successful real estate company, ThisIsLivin Properties!

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Five years into my real estate career, was the shift of 2009, the market started to majorly change; during that time, so did my personal life. Many people were feeling the impact of the economic cycle and worrying about bills and jobs. It was a time when people started losing their homes, and I was close to being one of them, as I was going through a divorce. It was a defining point and I was determined to stay in my home and be independent. I was able to navigate the market and come out of that time period with one of my highest production years, and I still have my house! Change is difficult, and something I struggle with, but it makes you stronger and more resilient in the end. And, as the saying goes, nothing lasts forever! While we may be in a downturn, and inflation is scary now, things will get better and a change is always on the horizon.
